  1. I have never tried it but I was told you could bleach them and get the same affect. Robert
  2. Guess I would be hackel Harry. I stocked up before I got married. I think I went a little overboard. Roebrt
  3. With lots of practice after tying many flies they became masters whoever they are. Sorry couldn't resist. Good question thought.
  4. I would live the bright light if it ran on batteries. Anybody have any good suggestions for portable lights as in not cord at all that would last say 2 to 3 hours before recharging? Thanks Robert
  5. I was at Home Depot last weekend. They had a box of "ott light" like lamps for 20 bucks each. It is the same bulb type but a cheaper folding plastic base. I have an ott light but bought one of these also. A replacement "ott light" bulb cost more. Just though I owuld pass what I saw along. Robert
  6. The crown vise is a regal Knock off. It is a good vise and a good deal. I use it for a guest vise and I tie on a Regal. Robert
  7. Yea I guess all wives are in purchasing. Mine is no exception. It is not so bad when she is spending someone elses money though. Doesn't seem to diminish her desire to spend our however.
  8. I do research on flower seed. I get them to germinate better. I also mange other reserache areas dealing with flowers. My wife is in purchasing
  9. Good Question. Usually you use waxed to help the thread from fraying (?). With the newer threads that are not cotton based, which I have switched to almost all the time I don't even know if they are waxed. IMHO either would work fine and I am sure I have both. I don't really notice the difference.
  10. My tying bench is oraganized, my desk at work is chaos. Guess which one I value more
  11. Funny thought SJO, you made me laugh. That could e very interesting in duck season. By the way here is my desk
  12. I ordered from j. Stockard this winter and all went well. Definately a thumbs up experience.
  13. I pull up walleye in Lake Erie on a sinking line with my fly rod when I get tired of Jigging. This is on a Sage SP. The trout purist would roll over in thier graves. Before anyone ask, it a lot easier to catch them on a jig and a minnow. It is the slow sink rate that gets the suspended ones I always figured. A lot of fun to bring to the boat however. Robert
  14. I use a Regal and love it. Years ago I bought the Regal knock off like the one on the hook and hackle site as a guest vise (and out of curiosity). Lets just say you won't see me in public with the knock off but in an unbiased comparison it is a very good copy. I could recomend the knockoff of the regal if your money is tight. Robert
  15. I totally agree with the blood quill advice. My locval shop actually sells both "regular" maribou and the blood quills. Four bucks a pop is crazy, that is what the local guy gets from me. The blood quills are teh way to go. Robert
  16. Welcome aboard, Too bad I am not one of those talented guys you talk about but I do enjoy it. Robert
  17. Tell her to email me, I will give her a great price. Seriously, I hope allmy junk never has to get sold. So far I have two nephews I have taught to tie, and between baseball, football swimming ect they come to club with me every now and then. My son is just learning. When I die, hopefully they all fight over it. Robert
  18. Mike, I'm sorry I didn't mean to give the impression the loon stuff stunk. The stuff I brought home from work, worked great but stunk. It stinks when it is hardening. Once it hardens there is no odor. Sorry for the confusion. I used the loon UV glue on my waders one time and I don't remeber it stinking. That experience is what gave me the idea to try the other stuff at home. Robert
  19. I was working with some UV curable materials at work. Naturally I had to take some home to try on teh bench as a replacmetn for epoxy. It worked great but boy does it stink. I imagine it would be the industrial source of the binder for the loon type products. Check out www.star-technology.com. They are a small company in Indiana and sell the stuff a quart at a time. Did I mention it really stinks as in I can't imagine it is good for you but it was awesome to have an instant setting epoxy (set up undr a UV light on an rotating curer). Robert
  20. I have also used them with no problems. Funny I bought that same thread. Robert
  21. In my humble opinion you can get a good started kit. I got mine years ago from Harry Murray in Virginia. Once you order the kit he will call and see what you want to tie. He walks around the store and puts it together for you. Look at his website murraysflyshop.com He picks what you need and gives you a little break on the price. Good Luck. I envy you. Half the fun of fly tying for me is searching out and assembling your kit of materials. Robert
  22. Just a sugestion, I don't kow if it is possible. Can the trading floor and the reports, tackle and equipment be linked between your sites. I need advice on a new line but don't really know the best place to post it. Just an thought Robert
  23. Graham, You have both sizes they sell, you should be set up good. Now they ship with a little plastic disc you put on either side of the spool. Only one of mine has them so they shold not be required. You may want to try another spool of thread. Since it is an adjustable slip fit you need to make sure the spool is relatively smooth on the two outsides. I would not be suprised to see that you have a plastic spur sticking up or somehting. The really are infiately adjustable like they advertise, at least to the extent of one click at a time. I counted mine up and I went through 4 clicks from tight to breaking the thread. So to make a long story short, look for nylon spacers but more importantly the spools have to be reasoably but not perfectly smooth on the ends. Robert
  24. Graham, Why don't you get those rite bobbins out of the drawer and send them my way. I love those things. I thought I was being excessive when I went from one to three so I could keep more primary colors threaded. I have been very tempted to try one of the Ekich bobbins. Presently I have 3 Rite bobkins and about a dozen generic ones. I hate rethreading, and since I don't see myself buying multiple Ekich bobins I don't think it will happen. I could see myself eventually owning a dozen rite bobbins though. Robert
  25. The vise device sounds cool, mabye one will pop up on ebay. Thanks
