  1. A couple of weeks I was out trying to fish and happened upon a decomposing turkey carcass that still had some good feathers. I was a little reluctant to handle it all that, but my buddy I was with hunts and all that so he pulls out a knife and asks me if I wanted any feathers. So now I have four wing and two tail feathers. I'm pretty hardcore now! Brian
  2. I know this has nothing to with fly fishing, whatsoever, but I am wondering if you can help me. I recently submitted some of my photography into a juried photography competition, and they are also having competition for a “People’s Choice” award. To see my gallery and vote, look here>>> http://www.artistwanted.org/mtbbrian The photographs I have submitted are from the Inflatable Characters project I have been working on for the past few years. To vote, simply click on the appropriate number of stars(Five being the best rating). It's that easy. Thanks in advance for voting! If for some reason you get a message saying something to the effect that you can only vote once with a 24 hour period, try again the next day or forward it to your home email account. I guess they are allowing people to vote for more than once, but you can only vote once within a 24 hour period. Hint.. Hint ;-) Vote soon! The entry deadline is 17 June and the notification date is 15 July Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brian
  3. Another, and hopefully a more interesting photograph. It is also from my Holga, the two frames are adjacent to eachother. I'd love to hear what you think of this one. Thanks! Brian
  4. Thanks for commenting Jay and Russ! Brian
  5. Like a lot of you, I like to combine my passions. When I mountain biked I would always have a camera or two(or more) with my. This is the first of what I hope will be many fly fishing photographs to come. Camera used, was a Holga(one of six I have) and film was Tri-X. Brian
  6. WOW! Maybe it really is spring here in SLC! In the SL Valley there is no snow on the ground, in the mountains it's another story though. Brian
  7. EXCELLENT! Hopefully I'll be next! Brian
  8. Not to hijack things here, but... How do you "pack" deer hair exactly? Brian
  9. As a vet to be, al I can say is. THANKS! SSG MTBBRIAN USA
  10. Regarding your 300mm lenes on a digital camera. Without the converter, you already have 450mm or so, depending on the size of the ccd of your particular camera. So if you throw a 1.4 converter on, you'll have something a lenes that is now somewhere near 675mm. On top of that, your f/4 lenes is now a f/5.6. And yes, depending on the converter and lenes you may loose some of it capabilities, which are likely to be focusing speed and metering options. You will loose a bit of sharpness too, and your viewfinder brightness will likely be less too. I have never been much for teleconverters, but they are an inexpensive option. Brian
  11. Makes sense. I am way new to all of this, but with the ribbing and back is how I was taught. Brian
  12. I can't quite tell what these look like, but they don't seem to have any ribbing or a vien, going down the center of the back. That's how I tie sow bugs, with red wire ribbing and a piece of peacock hurl with the fibers removed running down the back of the fly. Brian :dunno:
  13. That's a fine looking parachute regiment you have there! I am sure they will land successfully and capture the enemy! Brian Hoo Ahh!
  14. Sow bugs are good, as well as green drakes, griffiths gnats are good as well as the above mentioned for Utah. Brian
  15. I have learned how to do both simple dubbing and how to do a dubbing loop, so I am trying to understand the differences and the similiarities between the two techniques. Can someone explain that to me? Thanks! Brian
  16. Thanks Bill! It works for me. Brian
  17. From one Soldier to another. Stay Safe! Hoo Ahh to you and yours over there! SSG MTBBRIAN USA CBHCO Utah
  18. It doesn't exactly look that sterile now, and as I mentioned above, I have carpet on the floor now. I've got a lot of space in that cabinet yet. Brian
  19. There you go! Looks like a great tying area in the making! Brian
  20. Jameson, Unless you have already added mine and I just missed it, feel free to add the two pics of my area to your collection. I think I took out the wrong part of what I wanted to quote!? Brian
  21. I posted some pics of my area two months ago, see the post HERE It's a 5'x7' corner of my basement. I have made a few additions since I made this post, I have carpet on the floor now and have a shelf on the wall for my two rods that I also use to hang my wadders to dry. The bench, as it were, is dresser I got from my sister who was looking to get rid of it. It's a great piece, it's from IKEA. The biggest thing, is having a place that you can leave your stuff out. Good Luck! Let us know how things turn out. Brian
  22. Not that I've seen a lot of fly photographs, but I'd say these are the most artisitc ones I have ever seen. You did a great job with the lighting! Brian
  23. My wife does the same thing. It's a good laugh. Brian
  24. I have been looking at different fly patterns and have seen some that call for calves tail fur. So I was wondering if antelope hair, particularly the underbelly, which is white would be a good subusitute for calves tail. The one pattern I was looking at in particular was a royal wullf. Thanks! Brian
  25. I like that first one Jay. I meant to reply to the b-day wishes, so here it goes! Happy Birthday! Brian
