  1. Too funny! :hyst: That would be an interest fly pattern for sure! Brian
  2. The Nikon v Canon debate is a kin to Ford v Chevy. So, in my opinion it comes down to a two things, price and features. What are you willing to spend, should be the first thing ask yourself. If prices are similiar, you consider features next. Which features will best suit your need now and inthe future. For some reviews by actual users, check out the reviews section on www.photographyreview.com. I am very biased when it comes to cameras, so I'd recommend the Nikon. Nikon claims the D40 is the "world's lightest DSLR", for what it's worth. I don't own a Nikon camera anymore( Nor do I own a digitial SLR for that matter), but I have owned a few Nikons in my time. If you have experience with any of these companies in the past, you might consider going with the camera from that manufacturer. Good Luck and let us know what you end up with. Brian
  3. I am sure this is a wierd question, but here goes.. I got a hair cut yesterday, and picked up a small clump of my hair and got to thinking if it could be used in a fly and I have also seen a person on a fly fishing forum I frequent describe his favorite fly as one that uses belly button lint and pubic hair. I know he was being silly. And the author of "The Curtis Creek Manifesto" mentions it too, although I am not sure if he was serious or not. So I was wondering if human hair is something that could be used in a fly and how would you use it? If you have a pic of a fly that has human hair that would be cool. Thanks! Brian
  4. I haven't used any of my cameras since September or so, you're making be feel bad Jay! I think I have recovered enough from the exhibit I was a part of last year, I need to get out and do some shooting! I have some Holga fishing photographs in my head that are anxious to get out. I need to go fishing! Brian
  5. I'll take that as, you've never heard of a Lens Baby before and think it's COOL! Right On! Assuming you get one, I look forward to seeing what you come up with! You might also like one of these >>> http://www.holgamods.com/xt/xt.html It's a Holga lens, that is fit onto a body cap of a few different DSLR bodies. If you get one of those, tell them I referred you. Brian
  6. Do you have or know what a "Lens Baby" is Jay? You might find it a useful accessory from what I have seen from you lately. Brian :headbang:
  7. Thanks Peter! I own six Holgas currently, but the three on my site are my main ones. I have only had the range finder for a little more than a year now, it's a great camera. Before that I shot with an SLR, and have been shooting with Holgas for about 14 years now. I can't wait to take them all out for some fishing photography! Brian
  8. Can I toot my own horn? This is, My Webpage I haven't shot any fishing stuff, yet, but you cand be assured I will be. I shoot film, with two different cameras, a Holga (which is often thought of as a "toy camera". It shoots 120 film. You can see examples of them on the first page of my site. I also shoot with a 35mm range finder. Thanks for checking out my site. Brian
  9. It sure does! I just trimmed the wings back and the two look rather similiar. Have you caught any trout with it? Thank! Brian
  10. Those are fun Jay! I saw them on UTOF too. I am sorry I missed the event now! Brian
  11. So had I made the wings into legs, would it have been more closer to the Diawl Bach? Or what? Thanks for the info! Brian
  12. I was tieing some flies last night and was trying to tie what the book called a Diawl Bach. I didn't have any holographic tinsel, and I put the feathers up instead of down. So I guess my question is, is it still a Diawl Bach, or is it something else, or what? Would it still be a wet fly too? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it, I am very new to all of this. Ingredients include, brown cock feathers, peacock hurl, copper wire black thread on a number 14 wet fly hook. Thanks! Brian
  13. Jeeeeez Jay! I am merely a photographer by avocation, I am presently on active duty with the Army. You're a good photographer too., make sure and check his site out too, the URL is in his signature as well. I have pointed my Holgas and other cameras at many things, I am looking to doing the same with fly fishing. I have a few photographs in my head that are anxiously waiting to be exposed! Brian  and
  14. Those are Great Jay! I hope we can get out and fish Big Cottonwood together this sumer. I'll bring along my Holga toy cameras! Brian
  15. Thanks! I just started. And I mean I just started, fly fishing and everything! I caught this monster, my first EVER fish, two months ago now. Brian
  16. I just put this area together in my home today and I thought I'd share it with you here. Brian
  17. Your latest looks A LOT better. I'd say your first and my first look pretty similiar. Thanks for the info and inspiration! You have given my hope! I have moved onto doing Wolly Buggers now, and I think I got it! I'll post some soon. Brian
  18. Last night I was attempting to tie my first ever fly, a Hare's Hear Nynph, and needless to say it didn't work out. My problem started when I was adding the dubbing, I didn't have any wax. So my question is, Is wax that important to add dubbing. On a related note, when the Hare's Ear fly didn't work out I switched over and did a San Jaun Worm which turned out great! :yahoo: Brian
  19. Sounds good! So as a rule, it's a good idea and will create good foundation. Thanks! Brian
  20. I have yet to tie any flies yet, but I have done a lot of homework and have a question. Is step one, no matter what, tie a base layer of thread? If this is the case, what color shoul dit be and how long should it be too? Thanks! Brian :dunno:
  21. Bait? What's that? Thanks for your suggestions everyone! Brian
