Ok, I stepped up to the plate and used some of the advise from guys like day 5, rhinorods69, and Bud Guidry. This past week I cooked dinner every night and took the family fishing. Didn't get much serious fishing done, but they loved it. It seemed to work like magic, I haven't heard one complaint about fly tying :yahoo: I think what worked best is when I took Bud Guidry's advise and went last Saturday and bought her a brand, new Jeep Commander. Oh, she loved it. But, my fly tying addiction just got a lot more expensive :bs:

Since I have a ton of #2 hooks setting around, I thought I would try my hand at hosting a swap if enough of you are interested. The theme will be anything on a size #6 or larger. So, you can tie any pattern or any type of fly so long as it is tied on a hook that is size # 6 or larger. All other standard swap rules apply. Due: September 20th, 2008 Let's limit it to the first ten swappers that reply with "I'm in" Swap is now full 1. I was searching through the fly pattern data base by MATERIALS, and I noticed polar bear hair. I have a neighbor that was going to give me some polar bear hair that he aquired several decades ago. This stuff is really nice and in very good shape. I have been hesitant to accept it because I thought it was illegal to posses after 1970 "something", unless you had a receipt showing that it was obtained before the polar bear was put on the protected species list. Am I correct in my understanding or am I way off base?

No, not lazy around the house. I do all the outside work and help clean and cook meals for our family of 4. Don't get me wrong, we have an excellent relationship. It's just the nagging about my "addiction". Therefore, I will be taking her, my 7 year old son, and 3 year old daughter fishing in my boat this week. It will be my daughter's first time in a boat. This could be an adventure!

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but, I need to vent. I have been tying for about 3 years now and, yes, I am very much addicted! Of course, my wife has 3 special ways of reminding me of my addiction so that I never forget......... 1. All you want to do is fish or tie flies. 2. Do you really need to buy that. 3. I'm not trying to complain, but......... Lately, when she begins to remind me of my addiction, all I hear is blah, blah, blah, blah!! Don't get me wrong, I have an awesome wife. She would be almost perfect if she could get past my addiction. Am I the only one that deals with this kind of thing?

Lately, I have become an ardent student of this indigenous American fly-tying technique. The few patterns I find involve parallel or overhand weave techniques for stone and dragon fly nymphs. As of now, I am learning the Spotted Strip Weave; however, I am finding it difficult to locate any sample flies to use as a pattern. I have searched FTF pattern database and not had much luck. 1. Does anyone use this technique? 2. Does anyone know where I can find different fly patterns besides stone and dragonfly nymphs?

Nice photos, DaveB! Where's the Shawsheen River?

Fred, how about a Luna Moth?

Just had a large piece of bear hide given to me. Never have worked with the stuff. I have searched for different types of patterns that use bear but can not find to many. Any suggestions? Does bear make a good substitute for anything?

Last night My wife and I were outside cooking on the grill. We have an 8 acre pond in our backyard. I looked out in the pond and saw a Candian goose struggling to get to shore. This goose could barely keep its head above water. As the goose neared the shore, my wife and I went down to check it out. As the goose got near the shore, I observed a huge snapping turtle clamped down on the leg of the goose!! I know turltles will eat fish and things like that, but a Canadian goose?

I agree with Sean Jaun. Invasive species sounds like a great topic and I am sure you will find tons of research. I know here in my state we have had problems with the Emerald Ash Borer, Eurasian Milfoil, and the Round Goby in the Great Lakes.

Iowaflyguy, The material on the back is 1/16th inch sewing ribbon. I found it at Hobby Lobby. It comes in many colors and is very durable.

Just mailed my version of a black stonefly nymph. RRSS, thanks for the great swap. -
BB, the package and box was in pristine condition. Live and learn. Next time I'll use a smaller box i.e an altoid can. Thanks again for everything. I still can't decide if I will fish with the flies or save them.
