  1. I love classic hair wings. Great job on this one. Garren
  2. Yep, I will be at the expo. Looking forward to it again. The two day format makes for a great weekend. Garren
  3. Hi Randy - great looking steelhead fly. How are the hen saddles working out for you? Garren
  4. Hi Andres, The site looks nice. Are you going to be at Somerset again this year? Garren
  5. Hi Wayne, I like to use another hook for the extended body, that has had its eye and hook part clipped off. This doesn't wory well for a fishing fly, but looks really nice on a realistic fly. I have a step by step PDF on my website here: http://ultimatehook.com/WovenMayfly.pdf Garren
  6. I would have to go with the Norlander bobbin. I really like the retreival of the thread. Garren
  7. Great looking photos. I really like the one with the fire, with the sparks leaving the light trails. Garren
  8. Yes, make sure that the hair is clean and that you clean any underfur. The amount of hair can make a difference as well, try to only stack the hair that is needed for the fly. Garren
  9. There is the bit*h creek nymph which has a woven body and I believe it has been around for a long time. This fly utilizes a overhand weave where you never let go of the materials. This differs from the granny knot weave or the crotchet weave. You can substitute a woven body on a lot of nymphs to get a different look. Garren
  10. This purple woven stonefly shows the artistic side of realistic fly tying. I have never seen a pink and purple stonefly in the wild, but this artistic representation is sure to catch the fly fisherman's eye. Garren
  11. A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by garren: Artistic Realistic Stonefly
  12. Here is a PDF of a step by step of my woven mayfly. If you have been tying for a little bit, this is not an overly difficult fly. Here is the link: Woven Mayfly Garren
  13. Hi Roy, I just read Fish & Fly and saw that you were part of an article. I will have to give it a try. Makes sense about the tippet. What do you use as a post to tie the hackle around? Garren
  14. I like the look of the fly. Have you tried fishing it? It would be interesting to see how it floats in the water. Garren
  15. Nice looking fly. What are you using to color the wings? I have experimented a lot, but have found it difficult to find a pen to draw fine lines. Garren
  16. That is pretty awesome. Very creative fly tying video. Garren
  17. Very cool looking fly. Great job! Garren
  18. THank you, looks like some interesting product. Put my order in for the catalog. Garren
  19. Thanks everybody for the kind words. SullyTM - I used Soie Perlee from Kreinik for the body. (Kreinik - Soie Perlee). I wish it was just a tiny bit thinner, but it works really well. I like to experiment with a lot of different colors, so with the set of 28 colors that works out well. Bruce - I also do the light bottom, dark top on some of my other weaves. I have been experimenting a lot with different weaves to get different looks. The fly below is using different materials then the one above. Here is an example of the darker top, lighter bottom: Thanks again everybody for the kind words. Garren
  20. Experimenting with a different weave. Makes for an interesting look. Garren
  21. A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by garren: Woven Stonefly
  22. I wish I could, mine went out of business a few months back. Hopefully another one will come to town. Garren
  23. Very sorry to hear. I met Scotty years ago at one of the Expo's in Eugene. I won some of his flies in the auction that year. I was very impressed with his work. Cancer is a horrible thing. I lost a very good friend and mentor, Al Brunell, to cancer two months ago. Garren
  24. Rocky, Thank you. I have never visited Irish Angler before, I will have to give them a try. It is hard to find the down eye on the doubles. Philip - I will have to see if I can find a copy of that magazine to look at that article. Garren
  25. Mark, I am not sure if it is legal or not to fish double hooks in Oregon. These wouldn't be for fishing, just for shadow boxes. There is quit a history of double hook steelhead patterns here and just want to replicate some to look at on the wall. Garren
