  1. Great topic, but like the others mines long gone as well.
  2. Great looking flies you have been posting
  3. I use small poppers for white perch here, yellow/black. I mainly fish lakes and sometimes severl fish will try to hit the popper at the same time.
  4. I like to convert the C.S. flies with a Rabbit strip wing on a size 2 tmc 300 hook. The trout kill em, but I have found that I have lost some big fish due to the long shank hook. Right now I am trying to come up with a tandem hook system for them.
  5. Dr. Slick are great tools if you got the bucks buy the set. If you can, go to a fly shop and test out regular cheaper tools and then the jmbo set. You might find that you dont need expensive tools
  6. I recently read this and am wondering what wet fly fishermen think. "Hooks, something to think about. In the August 2007 issue of Fly Tyer, Grahame Maisey (a supplier of custom hooks) states ... "We discovered that with flies tied on hooks with down-turned eyes, especially regular wet-fly and nymph hooks, that the flies drift through the water correctly as long as there's no drag on the line. But, when you begin putting a little drag on the line, these flies will flip over. When a fly is tied on a hook with an eye that is turned up, however, it always rides in the correct position"
  7. Last summer while working on the flats I was complaing about horse flies bitting me. I dont mind getting bitten buy smaller bugs as using bug dope will keep them at bay most times. It doesnt seem to matter how much bug dope I use or what type. When those dammed horse flies want to bite you they will. Another guy told me that they dont go out into the woods without one of those small dragonfly toys from the dollar store on the back of there shirt. He told me dragon flies eat horse flies. I have never seen what he was talking about but I knew a simple foam dragon pattern and tied one up on a saftey pin. I put the fly on the back of my hat and it seemed to work. While a few other guys told me about how many horse flies bite them I could honestly say "what flies"
  8. What do you need to know? Most fly patterns are listed as they are tied..usually. Start with the hook then thread and the parts of the fly. Here is an example of an addams and its step by step. Here the pattern is listed differntly then its tied, but it should give you a rough example http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...:en-us%26sa%3DG
  9. The barred legs on the side looks more like part of a skirt from a bass lure.
  10. Scuds do go through colour changes as they get older and die there heads turn an apricot colour and this fly looks like a dying scud and easy prey. Those are great looking hooks, hope to see more flies tied on them here on this side of the pond.
