You refuse to pay your bills because there is a sale on power saws...so you can cut a 4 foot wide 120 foot long hole in the frozen lake to see if your flies work properly

Classic streamers and wet flies, using things like uni floss, uni tinsel for the bodies, there are other brands but that is what I mainly use. For classic streamers use long straight bucktail for the throats, strung or matched hackle feathers for the wings. Peacock herl is used long above or below the body, golden, silver, natural or other pheasant breast, tippet and crest, hen saddles, guinnea hen, duck breast or flank, partridge/grouse, ect. are used for the cheeks as well as jungle cock for the eyes. Here is a link to some Carrie Stevens patterns tied by members here. http://www.ronnlucassr.com/CSM/memoriam.htm Wet flies using much the same floss and tinsels, but with goose turkey, duck pheasant cut matched wing sections or flank to tie wings and hen hackles as throats ect. Simple hairwing salmon flies, and even tradditional catskill dry flies will defenitaly improve your tying skills and material collection. Then work on full dressed salmon flies. Check out the classic sections of this forum. The first issue of Hatches has two great articles on wet flies for fishing/art displays and classic streamers. J.Stockard has a great selection of materials and unbeatable service. There are lots of places to get quality materials online, hopefully other members here will chime in for you with some links. (I am not home on my computer) Realistics, using swiss straw, japanese nymph legs or natural materails ect. The list goes on and on, you can make your own things from craft stores fairly easily using your imagination. Most fly fishing mags and websites have new or existing patterns, try tying anything you see that you may think you can fish with or make displays out of. Anything you feel you can tie or are challenged by. Dont get frustrated, take your time and dont be afraid to experiment. Keep posting flies as you can. One thing you realy should consider is that tying materials cost money, some items are realy expensive. I suggest you buy the materials for the flies you plan on fishing and slowly purchase the more expensive things. That's a great looking rod cabinet your father made. Keep on tying!!

If you dont have time to make or buy a zonker strip cutting tool, just use your siccors or razorblade to cut a few strips, or claws. Crosscut is just that, accross the way the hair is laying from side to side of the pelt. Regular strips is from head to tail. Turn the pelt over skin side up, put a few thumb tacks to hold the pelt tight and draw a line with ruler and pen...cut away.

I use small stackable circular type containers so I have most of my beads together and that I can get my fingers in to grab them easily. I have stored beads all over the floor, picked most of them up but the rest ended in the vacume cleaner. :wallbash:

Where I live you can buy this type of replacement net at Wallmart or Canadian Tire fairly cheap. http://www.aquamasters.com/rubbnets.htm http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0029796013178a.shtml

Neat idea for a streamer, keep them comming!! -
Best off to putt the wings in a bag with some borax to dry up all the meat, or pluck the feathers off the wings. A container or bag with some moth balls or moth crystals with all the feathers inside should kill most bugs that will damage your feathers. If you get another bird try skinning it. Here is a picture of a dried skin Having the whole skin makes it easy to have matching left and right feathers.
