  1. Nice ties. Looks as though they could be successfully fished on sink tips as sculpin imitations.
  2. That fly looks bloody deadly....pun DEFINITELY intended!!! Seriously, a very effective looking pattern.
  3. Thanks everyone for all the sage advice!!
  4. Aside from epoxy, can anyone recommend a clear coat lacquer or other type of finish that dries clear and glossy? Preferably one which doesn't make the paint or markers bleed when applied. Most of my hard-bodied bugs are cork or balsa I carve by hand, to which I apply paint and/or markers. Thanks. :help:
  5. I finally found, after a lengthy search, some Tiemco 511S fly hooks. These are 4x long, 2x wide kink shank saltwater popper hooks. I bought the remaining supply of size 1/0 , but they were marked down in price as if they were being discontinued. If this is the case, it's a shame, because they are absolutely perfect hooks for the large balsa and cork bugs I tie/carve/ glue for big bass and pike. I haven't been able to find them anywhere else, either online or in brick/mortar stores. Anybody?? :dunno:
  6. Spent a long and frustrating evening on a small local lake Monday night. This lake has jumbo crappie, bluegill, and largemouths. I was targeting the latter. I threw large, weedless woolly buggers, blonde series streamers, rabbit strip jig flies, poppers, you name it. I saw plenty of bass and watched them ignore all my offerings. The weather was warm, pleasant, and calm. Water temp was around 68 degrees. The barometer was dropping as a front was approaching from the west. These fish are well into their post spawn routine. I just can't figure out what happened. Any ideas?
  7. I wasn't able to access my 'puter for a few days-is the voting still going on or did I miss it? It will be a very major bummer for me if I did
  8. Very well done, Will. Thank you!! :
  9. Has anyone heard anything regarding when the contest submissions will be posted for viewing? The suspense is killin' me!!
  10. Just want to wish the best of luck to all who entered a fly or flies in this year's contest. I'm really looking forward to seeing all the great patterns that have been submitted- it will surely be difficult to decide which ones get my votes!! This is my first fly tying contest of any kind, and I'm really pumped. Congrats to all who entered, win or not.
  11. Hello fellow fly fishers, This is my first post to this forum and I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I'm flyrodbassbum (also known as Pete) and I'm really excited to have stumbled my way across this site. Just from the few minutes I looked around before registering I was impressed by the variety of topics I found here. I'm very passionate about our sport, especially fly rodding for largemouth and smallmouth bass. When I'm not actually chasing bass with a fly rod I'm either thinking about it , reading about it, or tying patterns both old and new to try. I'm sure many of you share the same obsession, regardless of species, and I look forward to learning from all of you and hope to maybe put in my two cents worth of wisdom as well!.
