  1. Like flytire, I have a Blog where about 90% of my recipes are kept. They are are also individually cataloged and stored on an external hard disk (La Cie). As another back-up, all of the recipes for the patterns I have tied are in spiral notebooks: I just completed a move to Pullman, WA from Los Angeles so my tying has been restricted for the past couple of months and will start up again in the Fall when all of the new household chores are completed... 2. The Daiichi 4640 and 4647 60 degree jig hooks have a much longer shank than comparable jig hooks from Hanak, Dohiku, etc. They are also barbed. I have used both: PT/TB
  3. I don't want to rain on your parade, but Greg Garcia came up with his Mini Hot, which is mini stimulator around six years ago when he was working with Charlie Craven: http://www.charliesflyboxinc.com/flybox/print.cfm?parentID=181 PT/TB
  4. Marc Fauvet put this up again on his The Limp Cobra Blog site. It is probably the best dubbing tutorial ever compiled. It was put together by Dennis Shaw on Dennis’ site UK Fly Dressing Forum back in August 2009 and since disappeared... https://thelimpcobra.com/2013/01/08/fly-tying-a-complete-dubbing-techniques-tutorial/ Bookmark it ! Every fly that I have tied over the last eight years or so, has a recipe that has gone into a spiral notebook. The dubbing blends are therein contained... PT/TB
  5. Can the zelon be used in split thread so it flares around the hook? Looks like a simple effective pattern. I would imagine that by using the Marc Petitjean Magic Tool. one could stuff anything in split thread or a dubbing loop and then use it for hackling: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=images&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwj7zaX2hazbAhVoi1QKHSpaC78Qjxx6BAgBEAI&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DPhGB_tiNJ28&psig=AOvVaw2-zJYv0g7--YAWcEz5WWlH&ust=1527721950177149 These are some other Craig Matthews Zelon Midges that do not use hackle. The are tied on TMC 2488 hooks, using regular straight Zelon. One can really go small with these using Micro Zelon and Semperfli 18/0 Nano Silk... PT/TB
  6. Safet Nikocevic, who ties his Caddis patterns at the Steinway factory where he works in Queens, NY, has some interesting Caddis wings using organza and feathers. My son has used some of Safet's flies on the Upper Delaware and really likes them. He gets them at The Urban Angler in NYC... I also use the web wing that flytire pictures above for John Barr's Web Wing Caddis: ...and here is an interesting pattern I use here in the Eastern Sierra called the Scuba Caddis that uses medallion sheeting. There is an included SBS for this pattern: http://stevenojai.tripod.com/scubacad.htm I have the Life Cycle templates and most frequently use them with medallion sheeting and Shane Stalcup patterns... 13. Here it is: I tied up a bunch of them for my son to use in the waters around Roscoe, NY...It imitates the Brachycentrus (Grannom) Caddis. I use this pattern for it here in the Eastern Sierra and it really works well. It is a variant on Craig Matthew's Guide Serendipity that is used on the Madison River for the Mother's Day Caddis Hatch: PT/TB

  23. Unh...that link goes to my BLOG and this is what I have: I got that carded fur back in 1975 when Chuck Fothergill's was the only Fly Shop (Aspen) in the Roaring Fork Valley. It is listed under "nostalgia" because I haven't seen any of this since then... and it is still in it's original state because I never found a sensible use for it.... PT/TB
