Personally, when I'm on the water I do the old zip-lock within a zip-lock trick. I'm starting to think that something like the Simms dry bag might be smarter. Anyone come across any good and inexpensive ways to keep your camera from getting soaked (bad for your warranty)?

I too have thought about Lasik surgery. I have worn glasses for my near sight since I was in the first grade. In college I developed an astigmatism too. My optometrist says I'm a perfect candidate for Lasik. Well the only good thing about my poor eyesight is fly fishing. When I'm at my fly bench or tying a fly on the end of my tippet all I need to do is peek over the rims of my glasses - INSTANT magnifier! The Doc said I'd be swapping my regular glasses for reading glasses. In other words, because of my age, I would be able to get rid of my corrective lenses, but then I'd loose that great magnification and buy reading glasses and those flip down magnifiers for when I'm on the water. Something to think about. I'm gonna put it off for a bit. Mostly because chicks think I'm hot with my spectacles : )

I just got it... DOH! That is funny. First I laughed when I got it, then I laughed at myself for how long it took me, then I laughed because I could see the damn wing, then I just laughed again.

So, I got some great criticism on my Obama Pupa. I went back for another look. I took a little more time and did some minor tweaking. I'm pretty happy with the results.

All right, My buddy handed me this fly recently. It is store bought, but he can't remember what fly shop or where. You can see in the pix that it is a bit worse for wear. I nymphed it very successfully. It was the upper fly of a two fly rig. this is my last one and I want to tie more. I might be able to figure it out, but I'm hoping someone can identify it and pass on the perfect recipe. It is tiny, the one in the picture is a #20 I'm pretty sure - check out those pretty mono eyes! The wings on the side flare out then curve back to hook - I'm not sure if they act as wing pads of the pupa or if they represent a thorax... hmmm. Any guesses?

Well, as I want to start working on my wet fly technique - fishing and tying - I tied some soft hackle march browns and some soft hackle green and partridge. Pix to come

I'm only half way organized. Here is my little table and that big tool box is stuffed with all my fur and feathers. So, if I need that black saddle, I just dig around for 45 minutes. Perfect.

I am in Southern California. I most often head up to the Eastern Sierra for my local (5 hour drive) fishing. I was looking for some winter patterns when I came across the site. Now I have more than enough midges for the winter. You have a great database here. Thanks
