  1. Mine are in the mail I hope they make it by Friday, thanks for hosting
  2. I've got six divers tied I plan on finishing them this week and I guess I'll have search for something to ship them in too hadn't thought about that yet
  3. Man I love me some bass bugs too and it's been a while since I recieved a box full of goodies in the mail, so if y'all will have me I'm in. Teeter
  4. I voted bass for the largemouth because that's what I grew up with, but the bluegills are a close second gotta love em heck I bought a 3wt just to chase em!!!! Gentlemen if you ever get to set the hook on a bowfin (a grinnel in my neck of the woods) you will walk away in awe they are bad to the bone Strong fast and aggressive with a mouth full of teeth and now will be forever known to me as "Swamp Muskies" BDH I love em all and I think all the rest of these guys do too and we will probably still be visiting this tread in another six years BTW I foul hooked a 48" carp right behind the dorsal fin last year on a ultralight spinning rod and let me tell ya it was game on until the 8lb test threw the towel in, I'm pretty sure he could pull a water skier
  5. Yes sir that is a great idea, it never ceases to amaze me what the creative mind can come up with
  6. PLease put me down for 1 original FTF in chestnut XL 1 Hatches XL Thanks
  7. I have a pair of Anvil scissors that I keep in my hand while tying and they work well, the sixth finger scissors would obviously be comfortable and I have to have a pair to add to my collection
  8. Gentlemen I appriecaite the advice, especially about keeping the wife away still haven't figured how to accomplish that task but still working at it just for the principle of it. I believe I will try the tungstens in the 4.5 don't really think I can go wrong either way
  9. I'm torn between the standard 4.5 sixth finger and the tungsten 4.5's , if anyone is using them I would like to hear you're thoughts on which pair is better. I'm thinking the tungstens may be hard to sharpen later on??
  10. I'll sport one of em with pride, but I do like the mayfly too. I'm disappointed that I didn't get a hat which I didn't even know was available but will certainly be expecting this year. Infact I'll make my wife do the shopping she never misses anything and she will buy two or more of each if you tell her they are on sell
  11. That's a nice setup, I really like the side caddy I may have to make one of those for my bench
  12. Nice work that floor turned out great. My wife is wanting to re-do my duaghters old room with zebra print or some crap and I keep stalling trying to to get her to warm up to turning it over for a tying/media room, if I've got to do all the work might as well have a positive outcome...stay tuned
  13. I used the box my fly tying kit came in similar to the boxes he purchased, and I took the backing off of three computer mouse pads for the foam which is kinda rubberized and holds a hook very well. I cut it to shape and shot it with spray adhesive worked very well. Now I just need someone to donate enough flies to fill it up
  14. Mucho grassyass I've never seen any there, probably because I always get dristracted by something shiny, but I'll take a look for some Tuesday while I'm there
  15. Where do you get you're ripple foam
  16. Youre vice and youre scissors are where you want to spend youre money, I recommend a pair of Anvil scissors the handles are adjustable (just bend them to suit) so they will be more comfortable since youre gonna want to get use to tying with the scissors in youre hand, just alot more convient, (the 6th finger scissors offered on this site would probably be great to thow I havent tried them out yet but I've got to have a pair)The Danvice that ditz mentioned is relatively in-expensive but of good quality it will hold a wide range of hook sizes, it rotates and will serve you for years. You will also need a bodkin (a big needle in a wooden dowel will do) a hair packer, a rotating whip finisher, a bobbin and bobbin treader, and some hackle pliers there are several kits out there that have all of these in a set. As far as material is concerned for bass bream and crappie some strung marabou in various colors, chenille, strung hackle in various colors (far less expensive than saddles or capes), rubber leg material, flash material, zonker strips rabbit or squrriel, deer tail, peacock herl, bead chain or lead eyes popper bodies (which you can make with balsa, cork, foam)maybe some lead wire for weighting. Once you get into this you will never have enough material but these are all good staples to start with and will give you alot of options for streamers, wolly buggers, clousers, and even nymphs. Starting out I would recommend Danville Flymaster Plus tread in a 210 Denier its a bit thick for small flies but it is pretty strong theres nothing more frustrating than breaking you're tread when you're just about done with a fly, it'll give you something to work with until you get a feel for tying. As for adhesives Sally Hansen hard as nails will do most of what you will need you can use it as a glue for you're base and a head finish too super glue works pretty good for attaching popper bodies. You know there are alot of different options out there for tools and materials which can be a bit overwhelming, if you go back and look at the post theres always some body seeking advice on which vise, bobbins, ect. ect. really it's just a matter of preferrence and at end of the day for me it comes down to what you get used to, I started out with a cheap kit that I tied with for three years before I wore the vice out it left alot to be desired but I had a blast learning with it. You are difinately on the right track, the advice of the guys on this site is worth it's wieght in gold, but it is far less valuable than the service you are providing so I want to Thank You and I hope you find more joy in you're new hobby than the rest of us combined Thanks Chris
  17. Man those are pretty nice I really like those Dalbergs
  18. This guy walks into a bar with a monkey, the bartender says hey man I'm sorry but you can't bring that monkey in here. The guy says man this is my pet monkey and he is pretty cool he will eat anything that you throw on the floor, if you'll buy me a beer I'll show you. The bartender looks at the few guys sitting at the bar, they all kinda shrug so he sets the guy up with a beer. The guy sits down on a barstool grabs a handful of peanuts throws em on the floor and the monkey goes crazy running around popping them in his mouth and eating them as fast as he can. All the guys at the bar are just laughing their asses off, so it's not long before they are all throwing peanuts, pretzels, chips and stuff out there for the monkey. The whole time a couple of guys have been shooting pool, one of them breaks a rack and the cue ball flys off of the table and comes rolling across the floor towards the bar before anybody knows what's happening the monkey comes running across the room snatches up the cue ball and swallows it. All the guys at the bar can't believe it "damn did y'all see that he just ate that cue ball", the guy that owns the monkey starts to get worried about him and leaves after a few minutes. A few months goes by and the guy comes back in with the monkey , the same guys sitting at the bar are shocked, the bartender say man he's alright huh, the guy says yeah he's fine. The bartender asks does he still eat stuff off of the floor and the guys says oh yeah sure does. One of the guys at the bar throws a peanut on the floor, the monkey runs over grabs the peanut sticks it in his butt then pops it in his mouth and eats it. The man says "wow he just stuck that in his butt and then ate it" , the monkeys owner said " yeah ever since that cue ball he sizes everything BEFORE he eats it!!!!"
  19. Man that is a great idea, very creative . I love the deer antler bodkin and base I've got to make a set for myself (well I guess I'll have to go deer hunting first kinda hard to talk guys out of their antlers)
  20. Man I hate that I missed this swap it was a lot of fun last year, I've still got the set in the box sitting on my tying desk just too cool to break up. Next time.....
  21. Yeah i was lucky not to fall off the flat side as much as I have burnt the roads up on it. I haven't had a great deal of time to tie but I have been fishing so most of what I have tied was to keep me stocked up. I have just started to sit down at the vice in the last week and I've been working on some bass flies but I've got a pretty good collection of new materials to play with so we will see. Thanks for the welcome
  22. Its been quite awhile since I was here, bout time to get back to my favorite addiction
  23. sorry guys I've been pretty busy lately and the fish are biting since the water temp dropped a bit so I had to do little fishing too I guess its a good thing that I logged in or I would definately have been late, I have a few tied up already so I should be able to put together a dozen or so and get em in the mail next week.
