A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by Jconns:
Purple Thunder & Lightning (Variant)

So i've been on a bit of a break from tying flies, and wanted to start tying again, so I figured i'd start with a few dry flies. I know of the bombers and flies of that kind but wanted to try something different. I was just wondering what are some good dry fly patterns for atlantic salmon and sea run trout?
Thanks
-
A very nice looking bomber . Do you follow the hackle wraps down the shank with the thread ? ............FrankNo, I don't. After tying in the hackle, i'll bring the thread back up to the head and then wrap the hackle, then tie it off.
-
Do you tie the hackle in at the bend or at the eye end of the hook? You can tie them in from the eye, but i tie the hackle in from the bend.

Hey,
Thanks for that, I completely forgot about doing that.
-
Hey,
What did you use for the body on this fly?

I was fishing for sea run browns at the time,
I was also fishing dead drift and being an idiot i forgot my indicators at my house.

Hi,
I recently went fishing and tried a few nymphs that I had tied up, unfortunately with no success.
This might sound kind of dumb but I was wondering if anybody could give me some tips on how to fish using a nymph
-
Hi,
Nice tie
What exactly are you using for the wings and tail?

Yeah, I didn't think there was a substitute, but i'll try that next time I tie some.

The past week i've been tying up a few blue charms, and a few green highlander variants.
I attempted some bombers and thought they turned out alright, no the best. I used caribou for the bombers, not deer hair, is there any difference in using that?
Here are a couple of those flies. Feel free to comment and give some advice.

Thanks for the suggestion, i'll try and tie some of these.
Ahh, I plan on fishing a few rivers on the Avalon
-
Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to tell you. I've never tried it on the river before I'm new to fly fishing, I've only been out salmon fishing a couple of times. I'm in Mt.Pearl also.
-
I'm on the Avalon as well. I agree with you about the head on the highlander it didn't turn out the way i wanted and I haven't had a chance to redo it. I find the same thing with the squirrel tail sometimes you think it's in there but you give it a little tug and it all comes out.

Thanks for you help. I'll do this next time I tie some up.

Thanks for the step-by-step, what the name of the thread that you used?
P.S: What do you mean burnish the thread?
