Self taught fly fisherman when I was around 20. I had never met another fly fisherman until I had done it for around 10 years.

While deciding I wanted to learn, I went to a local sporting goods store, that is now defunct, and purchased a beginner outfit, fly tying kit and a book. Went home that afternoon and figured out how to get around 20 feet of line out and figured that would fish. That evening was spent on my parents farm pond catching bluegill and from that point on I was hooked.

While I love river and stream fishing, where I live pond and lake fishing makes up almost all of my fishing.
