  1. great hearing from you , chris. hope all is well with you and the family. you are in. have a good one, pat
  2. its great hearing from you " gurgler people". I don't have any problems with hook size. I first used size 8 hooks for my gurglers, then decided to try a larger hook, tried a size 4 hook. the first three casts netted me two nice bass and a nice size gill, needless to say I am partial to the larger hooks. It will be great having a good variety of gurglers from different areas , anxious to see what is in store. 1. pat carroll - california 2. mr.vegas - nevada 3. foambug 4. the yman - colorado 5. o2fish welcome aboard, have a good one pat carroll
  3. I realize its holiday time, but if there is any interest, I would be more than willing to host a gurgler swap. Gurglers have done well for me in this neck of the woods in californee, any color combination seems to satisfy the bass and gills appetite. The normal fly tying rules would apply, self addressed envelopes, tag each fly and keep the tags small. Lets set the target date for the flies to be at my doorsteps no later than February 15,2011. Hopefully there are at least 15 " gurler fanatics" , like me, willing to put their talents on display. It ain't fair causing this much havoc in the life of the gills and bass, but such is life for the gurler "way of life." lets make this a fun swap. have a good one, pat carroll 1. pat carroll - california
  4. will I have been a member of the fly tying forum since september 2003. my original number was 95. I somehow lost my original number. I have purchased every issue of Hatches magazine, and recently sent a check for the latest issue of Hatches magazine, about three weeks ago.I am anxiously waiting for its arrival. One of my favorite items was the calendar. the magazines and calendar have all been first rate and greatly produced. What you have accomplished with this forum is amazing, over the years I have been in many swaps, and have participated in sending flies for a few cancer related organizations. Even though I am not as active in fly tying , I still manage to go to the fly tying forum on a daily basis. Thanks to you I am still somewhat addicted to the "FLY TYING FORUM". have a good one pat carroll

  12. rich, I only had three boxes going. The original, the reverse order box and the third box. Stay cool, I fondly remember the high humidity days when I grew up in the pittsburgh steeler area. Last weekend, we had some temperatures around 108 degrees, heavy winds and lightning storms ignited at least 8 fires in the local area. Typical california kind of weekend. have a good one pat
  13. rich The original (CYCLE 4 BOX) has landed at my doorsteps this afternoon. I should be able to send it your way within a couple days. As expected, there's quite a selection of flies. here's wishing you all the best from californee. have a good one pat
  14. Its great hearing from you , rick. Hope all goes well for you and your family. You and I go back a few years with the many swaps we have been in, I have a lot of your gems. Agian, the best of luck, and definitely keep in touch. Keep warm and enjoy that neck of the woods. My wife and I have been to Yellowstone 2 times, that is awesome country!!! have a good one pat carroll
  15. I haven't tyed any frog patterns, but I have tyed gurglers using many combinations of different colors of foam and legs. The bass and gills have given me a lot of action in this neck of the woods, around lily pads ,colors didn't seem to matter. This should be a good time to experiment. Lots of luck with your frogs!!! have a good one pat carroll
  16. As far as comedy movies, I'm surprised Peter Sellers movies of Shot in the Dark and What's New Pussycat, didn't get a mention. Maybe thats going back too far.The Blues Brothers is a good one!!! have a good one pat carroll
  17. A lot of my favorites already mentioned. One flew over the cuckoos nest. A few good men. The green mile. Emperor of the north. Tombstone Cool hand luke, Apocalypse now, Patton and Jeremiah Johnson. Good topic pat carroll
  18. As I expected, the next cycle is moving right along. I didn't really explain my reason for stepping aside as meister. I had a few things going on . My wife and I are both involved with the local cancer drive called, Race For The Cure, that is ready to happen this weekend. She is on the Cancer Survivors Committee, and I am the Luminaria Chairman. We are first timers at this, so its been quite an experience. My wife has been on chemo for aver 18 months, she recently started taking a stronger dose of chemo. Its hit her pretty hard, she still maintains her 'KISS ASS ' attitude in her fight, so "MY HERO" , is giving it a great shot. If you are in to praying, it would be most welcomed. The 'mystery swap" is in good hands and keeps getting more better and more better, I still check things out. I suspect the third box may be going to AFtier, if so, I think the charity box may be with it. Have a good one Pat
  19. mystery swap box 3 made its way to southern california, the quality and selection of flies were outstanding. I most definitely latched on to some good un's. cencalfly, I realy appreciate your help getting this box up and running!!!, keep me aware of our favorite neck of the woods,YOSEMITE AND THE SIERRAS!! rich, I should be able to have the fies separated in one box. All the addresses will be included. Again there are 12 tyers on the list. Should be able to have the box mailed out in a couple days.Be prepared for some greeat flies. If the other box heads this way, it will be passed on to you. "mystery swappers", it has been one great experience!!! have a good one pat
  20. breambuster, the bluegill creations landed in southern californee this afternoon, and a great thanks to all the tyers. awesome show of workmanship, and again the meister ran a super swap!!! many thanks to all, looks as though I am the first to reply, be prepared for some goodies, pat carroll
  21. great hearing from you steve, the reverse box and the mystery box 3 both have a great slection of flies, but that doesn't surprise me , this swap is loaded with talent!! rich5665 has agreed to take over as meister, so the mystery swap is in good hands. I may be partial, but the mystery swap , has by far, been my favorite format, and having you all on board has been great. this old, old man is ready to head to the pasture. stay tuned for more details. pat
  22. mel,it sounds as though you had a great couple weeks. thanks for the update . I will need to step aside as swapmeister, so hopefully someone will be able to take over as the swapmeister. As mentioned in a recent posting, I have the reverse mystery box and mystery box 3 should be landing at my doorsteps in a few days. Still don't have any idea where the other box is located. In the last couple days, I have heard from will and kerusso and they won't be part of the next cycle, that means there will be 12 tyers for the next cycle. I will hold the boxes and wait for some input, keep the 2 boxes in circulation or combine the 2 boxes? Sorry for having to step aside, the "mystery swap ' has been an ongoing swap for a few years. I have been able to have some great dialog with you and the fly tying talents has been something else. Seeing the awesome selection of flies from all over the country has made this a special format. Thanks for sharing. have a good one pat carroll
  23. the " reverse mystery box " landed at my doorsteps this week, as usual, there were some great looking flies to go thru." mystery box 3 " should be heading this way very soon. I will be making adjustments on both mailing sequences, trying to key on locations for less distances for mailing. I haven't gotten any feedback on the other " mystery box", sent a message or two, but so far, no response. my intent is to have 2 boxes for the next cycle, when the third box arrives , I should be able to work something out. we should have about 14 tyers for cycle 5, any interested new tyers can figure about 2 months or so for the next cycle. here's hoping trent and will are starting to manuever a lot better. hopefully mother nature gives us a break or two. have a good one pat carroll
  24. flytyer14, a message has been sent your way. here it is , close to the end of april, and the local mountains in sothern californee just received snow, and the forecast is calling for more snow, down about the 2500 ft. level. skiing in july!!! have a good one, stay dry and warm pat
  25. thanks for the update rich. very shortly, mystery box 3 will be making its rounds, you will have a chance to check out the new tyers flies, and you are going to like what you see. the talent is something else!! have a good one pat
