  1. As per my last mustad catalog and their webpage that is not a currect hook. Mustad can be reached at [email protected] Joe Fox
  2. We use Red Fox underfur of various shades as base for most dubbing. Joe Fox
  3. I fish that fly quite a bit and you have a wonderful tie right there. It will catch you alot of big fish if you can find them Joe Fox
  4. They are all all very close to the same. Their sizes and size ranges are the differeance between rooster and hen and cape and saddle. Joe Fox
  5. I have alot of vintage material and none of it has ever gone bad and I am talking back to 1940. The only then that can truly destroy material are bugs, almost anything else can be cleaned off. I have found that when most old materials are unusable it is not age but the material was never good. I also have a growing mind set that if there is no use for it throw it out, if someone else has a use for it get it to them. Joe Fox
  6. Phil, All from the same bird, almost same product just different sizes. They are from a chicken known as a Silkie. I have not handled enough Silkies to say how Dr. Whiting has changed it from the normal Silkie breeds but Whiting's is very fine and funny to work with at first. I like them for my fishing flies and have a few streamers I tie that have been effective with it. Joe Fox
  7. We started carrying them a few years ago and the feedback has been great. It is a great vise for a full range of trout flies. The only thing that has turned a few people away is it's size. It is much smaller then a Professional and I think a little smaller then the Voyagers. I like a vise around the same size range as the Pro and for a while I was using a Kingfisher because my Pro needed service. Over that 2 weeks or so I did get used to the small size but I still like the larger vise, more room between the hook and the stem. Tt does hold a hook just as well but the shorter lever is a down side making it not as easy to quickly switch hooks and requiring more effort. Joe Fox
  8. I order them direct but the supply is not constant. I have gone a couple months before another shipment had arrived from Europe. This season it is not as bad, last winter it was like pulling teeth. Joe Fox
  9. Wow I though I was the only one who still had Jack's. I think I am down to my last 15 or so bottles but everyone seem so hooked on Gink they do not even try it. Joe Fox
  10. I would not worry about performance with Griffin, they are top notch people who back their products, just do you like the feel of vise. Joe Fox
  11. I don't tie some bead heads with a wing case. I feel the bead kinda is part of the thorax or over the whole thorax. The flies catch alot of fish each year, that might say something. Joe Fox
  12. Just to clear a bit of history up, but that is not an Art Flick pattern. It is the American March Brown and it is a Preston Jennings pattern, Art Flick featured it in his book. Joe Fox
  13. It is not a 20/0 thread but a 20-denier. It is a single ply nylon thread and comes in White and Black. Uni 6/0, 8/0 & 17/0 are a polyester multi fiber thread so it is not quite different to work with. It has amazing strength and not as much stretch as other brands or materials. I enjoyed tying 26's and smaller with no bulk. Here is a little more info and a cool read. http://www.uniproducts.com/vgxadm/_data_/p....3761805556.pdf Joe Fox
  14. Welcome to the forum, fellow New Yorker. Joe Fox
  15. It does not look like I will be tying there but I will be going Saturday to see some friends. Joe Dette Trout Flies
  16. Very nice, I would use a shorter tail. A long tail can cause short strikes, but it is not always an issue. Joe Fox
  17. Jungle Fowl is a very general type of bird. The are fairly slender / smaller chickens. Jungle Cock tend to be smaller then the bird pictured and is a breed of Jungle Fowl. Alot of Indian Capes are from Jungle Fowl or breeds closely related. Joe Fox
  18. I will be tying there. Make sure you stop and say hi. Joe Fox
  19. They can be hit or miss. I would not hope for dry fly hackle, but there might be something good. I have found when going through non hackle birds it is very very hit or miss. Joe Fox
  20. Alot of paint brushes do not have the same tips like Micro Fibbets do. Joe Fox
  21. Look at the local bugs. We use Golden Ginger. Most of our sulphurs have Dun wings. Joe Fox
  22. You can use what ever type you want. The traditional call for Oval Gold, if I remember correct. Joe Fox
  23. I use sharpies a bit and never noticed a problem catching fish with those flies. I even had a midge that I used a sharpie to get the color I wanted and it was a very good pattern, but maybe the fish I was catching had a sniffing problem Joe Fo
