  1. I have a pretty good supply of hooks I bought "bulk" over the years.......I also have the luxury of being able to run down the street to a couple fly shops if need be........in your case, you might check Green Caddis outfitters (see banner at top of page). Will carries Daiichi hooks in paks of 25 i believe which is nice because it allows you to get more variety for the money.......i don't recall where, but somewhere on the web is a chart matching the different hook manufacturers style/size. i think someone posted a link on here for it a while back.....maybe someone else can chime in with that. Also on GCO, Will has posted some patterns with the breakdown of what you need material/hook wise so you can order from his site. Mike

    SWEEEEEEEP!

I had to miss the game last night!!!!!!!!!!! My son (6th grade) plays in the jr. high band and they got to play pre-game and half time at the high school game.......fortunately, I had enough friends watching the game last night that anytime a big moment cmae up, they called me on the cell phone and gave me the updates.....I am looking forward to Tuesday........and as i said the other day, I hope it's the yanks that show up to play........ Red Sox Rock!!!! mike
  8. That was the worst stretch of Pedro's career, dropping 4 in a row........Injured or not, he always seems to rise the occasion when there is a big game on the line....... It will be fun to watch. Mike
  9. They always seem to find a way.....
  10. I stayed up way too late last night, but it was worth it.........My wife thought i had gone nuts last night because i was rooting for the yankees to win over hte twins......I had to explain to her, it just wouldn't be as sweet for the Red sox if they won the pennant w/out facing the yanks......Pedro didn't do too bad last night.......even hit 96 on the radar a couple times when he needed it........I guess Bronson Arroyo is up tomorrow........we'll see if anaheim can keep up with his wicked curveball..... Mike
  11. If you have any dive shops in your area, they will have aqua-seal...... Mike

    "An Apology"

I read your post last night LW and in my opinion, no apology is necessary..........I understand why it was shut down........unfortunately, as was mentioned above, discussions about politics/religion can get heated quick.......even if the post wasn't meant to be a "discussion"........I have a group of friends from high school that i have stayed in touch with over the years, over the last 10 years, we have kept in touch over the internet. One of the guys set up a mailroom for us to keep in touch easier (he's a former billionaire now multi-millionaire, but thats another story) over the years we have found our political tastes have gone in all directions and just recently, one of the guys posted a similiar letter in our mailroom for everyone to read, I believe it weas intended to be a joke, but it got very ugly......it's taken a couple weeks, but the guys are starting to come back around........ I enjoy your posts, don't sweat it.......keep'em comin' Mike

    Hey Guys!!

Congrats on the new job Trav!! Sounds like a perfect fit for you. I figured you were just to busy fishing to post....... Mike
  14. Man, that sounds like a great time!!! I hope some day to be able to come up there and experience that myself.......I know I speak for more than myself when i say that all of us "salt water deprived" guys really appreciate everyones posts/pics on the "Saltwater Forums". Enjoy the fishing and keep posting!!! Mike
  15. Great idea Will!!! Looks good!!!!
  16. Will, you are probably right about the wet Spring.........I've heard that stuff in the past about the holes in the ozone and it's advrse effect on frogs........I'm sure glad to see them rebound this year......as are the bass I'm sure.......
  17. Since August, I have been hitting some of the local ponds in the evening. Most of them are down due to a lack of rain. The one i was at this evening was down a good two feet. It also had a pretty thick mat of weeds (much heavier than normal) reaching out 10-15' from shore. There were thousands of tiny frogs in the weeds! the bass were cruising the edge of the weeds picking off stragglers. Fortunately, I stocked up on hooks/corks last winter when Jim Hester ran that special on this forum. I don't think i have ever fished that much w/poppers/sliders before. Tonight, I threw out a simple, green cork popper w/ chartreuse bucktail along the weed line and the bass were hammering it......nothing real big, but a lot of fun none the less. Anyway, back to the original topic about the frogs. I've noticed alot more this year at my regular holes....is it just me or has anyone else noticed this? Mike

    Labor day

The family and i are going on our 5th annual neighborhood campout.........we'll be out at White Water state park in Indy w/about 15 other families.....bocce, beer, hiking, swimming, canoeing, and hopefully......a little fishing in between. mike
  20. I saw a fly fishing show w/Dave Whitlock last year, he was using nymphs, fishing for trout and the first thing he did after tying on a new fly was reach down and grab some seaweed and rub it into his fly......He said there were two reasons for doing that.....1st was appearance and 2nd was cover scent........ mike
  21. I've never "targeted" pike/pickerel with my flyrod......but caught (and lost) my share while fishing for bass. I'd go for the bass, theose same flies will also attract the bigger rock bass......some of my biggest perch came from lakes/ponds while bass fishing.......good luck, have fun! Are you going to have access to a canoe? If so, one of my favorite tricks is to throw out a streamer and troll w/it as I move around the lake........good way to locate the schools of perch.
