Do intruder style flies work in warmwater?
crawfly replied to crawfly's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
Well I didn't know that many folks were doing it but I do lead a rather sheltered life .... :-) -
I decided to give it a try ...... the response was encouraging enough to do it again this year. Rules are made to be broken so let the fish decide!

I staff for DC but it wouldn't make any difference one way or the other ..... There were only 4 co.s in play at the time. CCG was just coming out to make it 5. I tried it after the fact. That product line,CCG, has expanded quite some since and I'm sure it has gotten better. If you want to get by on the real cheap you can get loon knot sense or wader repair and put it in sunlight for about 10-15 secs. too. (I did that for a while.) BB was recently picked up by Wapsi so you should see it in more shops before long. Get what you can and give it a go ..... it's the name of the game, isn't it?

There are several other reasons I use Deer Creek, besides the diamond resins ......... gliss & glint+ (unique blends in-house) gliss & glink slink dome eyes (again, unique ..... also in-house) Kind of a one stop & shop sorta thing ...... Nice flies Mr. Gray

I'm not a user of the poo. I use Deer Creek UV. Really tack free before anybody else, was the main reason, amongst the other benefits of UV resins. Not only does it expand creativity, it typically adds durability at the same time. There simply is no other way I could tie some of the patterns coming off the vise these days ..... here's a couple

Local fly shop recently changed owners
crawfly replied to Hellgrammite's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
As a long time customer of fly fishing paraphernalia, I have noticed a rather ironic contradiction permeates retail sales ... the former "sales clerks" easily exceeded the customer service provided and which is so seldom found by the now "customer service reps" who are now employed. The unfortunate thing is, it's not just in the fly fishing market. Maybe a reversion to the OLD "title" would yield better results? -
Thanks for the reply. I have seen those oval/pearl before and thought them to be rather opaque from the photo. They background color change much like mirage. I will have to get some and give them a go.

Who is the mfg. of the eye you are using on this pattern? Great phly and phanks!

Hey Rob C., I just sent out some flies to a friend going there in Dec. as well. From what I could gather info-wise, bigeye trevally are a popular in-shore target. Black flies do well for them ..... top and sunk. Night time is good for them also. Drop me an email, maybe you guys could hook up. murph8351atgmail.com Good luck on the trip!

I like the JC eyes from Pro Tube Systems. All the benefits of the real mccoy without the cost or hassle. Very nice ties petegray!

"Rosborough and his original research are perhaps the first major contribution to the theory and techniques of American nymph fishing since Leisenring" ..... Ernest Schwiebert I'm a big fan of Rosborough. His approach and techniques impact my tying to this day.

Ulf is on FB and he also has a blog. http://ulfhagstrom.blogspot.com/ Just message him. :-)

Outcast Super Fat Cat Float Tube
crawfly replied to bigfoot's topic in Fly Fishing Gear & Techniques
Outcast stands behind their warranty and then some. No matter which tube you've got. Good tubes, Great company!! -
I go even older school and use a gum rubber block meant for clearing sanding belts. It is 1 1/2 square by 8" long and its sharp edges make easy removal with several passes. These days I use UV resin on it, one coat, and good to go! VERY good durability.
