At that risk of being lynched by an angry mob of steelheaders......I see these beautifully tied spey flies....The black hooks, perfectly tied hackle....Well formed fly heads....beautifully made flies with lots of movement and color....and I think to myself.....why wouldn't I tie flies in that style to chase small mouth bass with?.....So...my question is.....Why are these flies kept to steelheaders and is there anyone out there that ties similar styled flies for warmwater species?

Curtis...Yeah it's deer hair....I use a local fly shop for my supplies...nothing extra fancy...I hand select the bags of hair that I want...I look for hair that is about 2 inches long with nice even color... -
propeller poppers....2 more shapes

Perchjerker.......Proud of you....I wasn't writing a thesis my man...just making a fly that catches fish....I have made several fly body shapes with the propellers attached to the hook shank, much in the way spin casting torpedos are made...They do exactly what I stated....They create commotion in the water and add some sort of bubbling action that the fish seem to respond to.....I love fishing deer hair bugs.....I love traditional divers....The propeller on this diver was a bit of an experiment with shape and water movement....The best way to describe the action that the propeller added to this diver was bubbles...Maybe my word choice is off....Again...I wasn't selling a product or making a pitch....It left a stream of some sort....It added a little flair in my humble opinion.....Will I make these all the time...No...But experimenting and sharing thoughts is what drives the development of new fish catching flies....I think you need to chill out a little...No one was adding tall tales to the mix....I was trying to simply describe the action that was present......If you would like I can send you some and you can perform all the rigorous field testing that you want and present a supported, photographed thesis....I tie flies as a hobby, not a living....This wasn't meant to be a pissing match..... Cheers.... Smalliestalker -
nice tiger...we have those in a few spots in NY as well...they are always a treat to land....you should be fishing the Potomic....I hear there's bull sharks in there now...haha

Perchjerker...I think you're yanking my chain....Simple really....The fly gets stripped through the water....The fly dives under the water..The pressure from the water forces the propeller to spin...Creating a little extra bubbling action and some water movement....simple physics really....Hope that helps... -
nice looking flies you've got there.....

welcome to the forum

NJ....They do add more bubbles....a little more commotion.... Kirk....Yeah I've made some with a somewhat traditional torpedo shape.....That was the original idea....Then my brain went elsewhere as usual..haha... -
