Need a Little feedback on Lathkill fly shop
AZWoolybugger replied to stabgnid's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
All shops mentioned above are good to deal with. Packages from the UK can take 7 to 10 days in my experience. Double that around Christmas and after the first week of January. -
A great example of the fly and a great photo. Thanks for posting it Kimo!

Nice fly Scott. That olive came out very nice, kinda like a light sooty olive. I like it!.

Tim does some of the best videos available and I really enjoy everyone of them. Thanks for tip of the Denver show, I might have to try and get up there!

Acid dyes won't work on Poly. Try a dye made for polyester. Rit Dye More may work, I haven't used it. https://www.ritdye.com/faqs/dyeable-fabrics-and-materials/#faq-1725 Fiber: 100% Polyester Brand: Yarn Bee

Here is a link as to how Whiting explains it. http://whitingfarms.com/whitings-olympic-grading-system/ I agree with Silver, the Pro grade is perfect for most of us.

I have purchased books from Anglebooks / Coch-Y-Bonddu several times over the years and never had a problem. The shipping charges are much better per book when I purchased two or more at one time. They do have lots of good books I can't find over here and the prices are generally much better for the rare editions. Willhamo, I always enjoy seeing your Mayflies. Always very nicely done!

I use Sally's HAN or Fly-Tite. I think all of the lacquer types thicken over time once opened and will need thinning eventually. FLY-TITE® Fly Tying Cement (Head Cement) This innovative non-toxic cement is made of all natural ingredients. Dries clear and flexible and can be diluted with denatured alcohol. http://flyrite.co/gear.htm

Great Feathers in Maryland brings in specialty items from Europe. http://greatfeathers.com/specialty-materials-supplies.aspx Here are a few of UK companies that I have used over the past few years without issue. All are family / single owner shops. http://www.theessentialfly.com/fly-tying.html http://www.cookshill-flytying.co.uk/ https://www.flytyingboutique.com/ http://www.funkyflytying.co.uk/

I wish him the best of luck, we need more competition in this market.

The MOP Rootbeer became the colour du jour a few years back and it became rare as hen's teeth. Fly tyers were ordering from all over the planet just to get a pack of it.
-
I keep mine in a sealed container with a box of baking soda. It does help reduce the smell but it won't fix poor quality. If they were not properly cleaned and "cured" I don't think it's worth the trouble of having them.

FTD PIP works well and is well priced. http://www.flytyersdungeon.com/Materials/tailsandwings.htm

Thanks Norm. I was thinking of going out to get a couple for the same reason until I saw your post. You saved me a few hours.

Ottlite makes a full spectrum medium base light bulb. Lowes has them for $5.58 in Phoenix area. http://www.lowes.com/pd_298198-55599-25ED12R___?productId=1243367&pl=1&Ntt=ottlite

A box of shower curtain rings is great to keep like items (zip bags) together. Keep it simple rather than being a slave to organizing. Joann's, Michaels, Amazon and other have lots of options.

Not sure what those materials are made from so not sure what to tell you. Acid dyes will work on nylon but not polyester materials. Dharma Trading might have something that will help once the material is determined. http://www.dharmatrading.com/dyes/choose-your-canvas.html?lnav=dyes.html

Feather Emporium - Very Strange
AZWoolybugger replied to Randyflycaster's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
I have never seen a mixed pack in a retail package, he might be making them up to order. Many of the online fly shops will have the Whiting 100's in sized retail packages. -
I have searched on and off for a few years and I have not found an fly app worth having. I agree with Norm, I save everything worth keeping to OneNote.
