  1. http://www.crazyfly.it/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=65_98&product_id=607 penne di tacchino = turkey feathers.
  2. Great flies and photographs. Penne di tacchino = turkey feathers
  3. That looks like a regular grizzle, maybe marked as grizzle variant as I think I see hints of dark ginger. See page 16 of this PDF from Whiting. http://www.whitingfarms.com/newsletters/WFI%20042013%20Web.pdf http://flyanglersonline.com/flytying/cree.php
  4. I have not had major issues with capes from the primary suppliers, but the quality of saddles can very wildly! I now wait until I am in a shop to inspect the capes/saddles before purchase. The blessing & curse of the internet...
  5. Acid dyes will work with nylon but not on all synthetics like poly. A true black can be difficult depending upon the substrate. I often save myself the trouble and let the pros do the black, most other colours/shades I do myself. Veniard's is not a very good choice for black (and a few others...), the Jaquard jet black is a true black and looks much nicer to me. Brands that I trust are Jaquard, Dharma Trading Acid dye, Orco Organic dye and Pro Chemical.
  6. Very nice Lucian! I need to get a bit more on my next order.
  7. Give this a look, http://www.paradisefibers.com/spinning/wool-roving.html. Roving has already been washed, cleaned and carded for spinning, much less work and most of these take acid dyes very well. (animal fiber & nylon) It is sold by the ounce, 4 oz minimum and increments, every now and then they offer free shipping.
  8. Dream Drift Flies has the largest Montana Fly Co stock that I know of and they ship to out of the US customers. Got a few orders from them and not had any problems. http://www.dreamdriftflies.com/index.php?cPath=152_163
  9. I use shower curtain rings (holds curtain to rod) to keep the packets together by brand/type and by color.
  10. Google shows a few but this one seems to be correct, not sure . http://www.washingtonflyfishing.com/forum/index.php?threads/agent-orange.85145/
  11. I use the Tach-IT box while on the river and the thin 18 compartment one like Planet Trout has posted for storage.
  12. You would need a gram scale for exact measurements, you can find one for around $10. Something like this http://www.amazon.com/Smart-Weigh-SWS100-Digital-Pocket/dp/B00EPO9M2Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1412090710&sr=8-2&keywords=gram+scale
  13. Look towards the bottom of this pdf from Whiting Farms. http://www.whitingfarms.com/newsletters/WFI%20042013%20Web.pdf

  15. I agree! I have several molted eyes that are as good as those in a fly shop. A few friends save me dropped parrot feathers and they are awesome.
  16. There really is no such thing as a 'best' anything. You should be trying to match the hatch, offer the fish something that it is feeding upon. (size, color, profile, movement etc. ) I fly will do great one day and might be totally ignored the next, totally frustrating, but that is fishing
  17. Sportsman's Warehouse usually has them, no grizzle at this time. http://www.sportsmanswarehouse.com/sportsmans/Metz-Grade-2-Micro-Barb-Saddles/productDetail/Fly-Tying-Feathers/prod9999008564/cat125109
  18. Roman Moser's Balloon Caddis w/wo legs is a good one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vyhZAxEgCs Chris Sandford's bullet http://www.chrissandford.com/why-do-they-bite-the-bullet Juan Ramirez's Hopper Juan http://hopperjuan.blogspot.com/ Charlie Craven's Charlie Boy Hopper http://www.charliesflyboxinc.com/flybox/details.cfm?parentID=164
  19. Fly-Tite head cement from FlyRite. http://flyrite.co/gear.htm Much less of the nasty chemical smells and is pretty cheap.
  20. Buck tails can be a bugger to dye. Make sure to wash them real good to remove the grease/fat. I find soaking them in warm soapy water for an hour or so helps to clean them and helps with even dye uptake. Acid dyes are made for feathers and fur and are the best option as has been stated. Acid dyes also produce a stronger/brighter colour, Rite is more earthy/pastel in appearance.
  21. That happened to me once a few years ago... Now I leave things in the bag/box they came in.
  22. Many of us like the Ottlite. Lowes has the Ottlite CFL for $6 if you want to try it without spending $$ or until you get your Giraff retrofitted with LED. http://www.lowes.com/pd_298198-55599-25ED12R_0__?productId=1243367&Ntt=ottlite&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNtt%3Dottlite&facetInfo= Day light CFL is also getting better. Ikea also has a couple cool LED desk lamps that I would like to try out.
