  1. Hi guys. I've been doing some brown trout fishing lately and the set up I use has two flies on the leader. The summer here has almost been nonexistent and the river I fish is really cold. So at the end I have this really heavy nymph to get down to the trout at the bottom. A little above I have this caddis imitation. As you can see it has suffered some rough treatment from the brownies. And here's a proof that they work(this one took the heavy, beaded one) more photos of the brownies and report here: http://www.flytyingforum.com/index.php?showtopic=60615
  2. Maybe close to 3 kg I'm sorry but I'm not gonna give any details about the location on the world wide web Oh, I didn't mean that you should! I'm just curious in what part of Iceland you are fishing. You really got good brownies there! I'm in the north-eastern part of Iceland, as far from Reykjavík as possible(thank god for that!)
  3. Hi guys and thanks for the respone! Went fishing two days ago and caught this nice brown, his stomach was full of something he had just eaten so they are not having a bad time despite the cold summer. But I went again last night and I caught this beauty of a trout! Really a perfect fish in every way! I have been using two flies on the leader, the beaded one is really heavy and I use to get down to the fish in this cold water. This one is a caddis imitation, it has suffered some rough treatment from the brownies! I'm sorry but I'm not gonna give any details about the location on the world wide web I measure the length and where they were caught, that's about it. I'm looking to see how much they grow and how fast, how old they get and how much they travel around the river. Here we call them Stationary brown trouts(opposite to sea trout) because the stay in the same river/area their whole life, I think the brown trout in this river is extremely stationary and stays in the same pool their whole life, but I'll find out if that is true or not in the next few years Don't worry, I'll keep you guys updated
  4. DOn't buy books, just make your own in Excel! I did and it's great, I even let excel automatically calculate all kinds of statistics for me about my fishing!
  5. Late august and september, really are a beautiful fish
  6. Sorry, way too big photos! These here are smaller and should be better for viewing.
  7. Hi. I finally got my first fish of the year and it was a beautiful arctic char. I ended up catching 11 of them(kept one for eating and he was great) and I lost many more. They were coming to the surface and there was fish everywhere. I stopped fishing not because of shortage of fish but because this was getting too easy. This was in a private lake my family owns. *EDIT* smaller photos below You will hopefully hear more from me soon, enjoy your summer
  8. My experience is that it totally depends on the season. Early spring when the fish are waking up after a long winter they are hungry and will take anything, throw in a streamer and you have a good chance. In the summertime the fish are more selective and the nymphing is more succesful, but when it gets close to spawning the big male trout get agressive and will take the streamers. But that's just my theory

    Other hobbies?

I have been ringing birds since I was 13 years old and since I was 17 I have been a member in the volunteer rescue squad in my hometown, that involves alot of hiking, ice climbing, rock climbing, cave exploring and other outdoor activities. Two pictures: http://www.flickr.com/photos/snaevarr/2599285914/# http://www.flickr.com/photos/snaevarr/3087...57625058381661/ and some information, I'm very proud of my work and all the other volunteers. http://www.icesar.com/category.aspx?catID=279
  10. I thought we had this forum here so we wouldn't need a blog
  11. I keep a journal about the fish I catch, the fly I was using, where I caught the fish and etc. I also measure all my fish and photograph them before I release them. Then I write a few lines about the day and my activities. I'm planning on getting a tagging gun so I can monitor the growth of the brown trouts in my river, how old they get and how much they travel in the river. I already recognize many individuals so it will be fun taking it to the next level
  12. I got them as a christmas gift. They are from Ron Thompson. http://www.garryevans.co.uk/ron-thompson-s...-box-1063-p.asp here is a photo of few types, I have the one on the right.

    My 2010

Hi again, I was experimenting and made a little video with photos from last summer. Hope you enjoy this! THE VIDEO
  14. I voted browns, to me they are the most beautiful fish available in my country and my family owns a beautiful trout stream that I fish alot. Atlantic salmon is a fantastic fish but I rarely have the opportunity to fish for it. But no fish fights harder than a sea trout that has just entered the river from the sea. Credit must also go to the arctic char which can be really beautiful and a hard fighter.
  15. I mostly use beaded nymphs, but I also use them without beads when I'm fishing shallow waters or when I can see that the fish is eating something close to the surface!
  16. Very nice, I wonder how it will act in the water, should at least sink very fast!
  17. Brilliant, I want one of those in my box, will definitely catch fish
  18. Very very nice tie, well done!
  19. Thanks. But yeah I know about the double hook, but I hardly use them anymore. And even though I did most of my local water is owned by me and my family or nearby farmers(many of them are related to me or I just know them) so I doubt I will be getting in any trouble But thanks anyway!
  20. Hi guys, thought I could show you a selection of my trout flies. 95% of them are tied by me so if you have any questions I will be happy to answer them. This isn't a great variety of flies but that is maybe because I always end up using the same flies, and most of the time they will catch fish so the motivation to experiment in my tying isn't that great. Anyways, enjoy! These flies all work great for brown trout, sea trout and arctic char!
  21. Veru nice photos, looks like a great year! This shot here is art! Fantastic work
  22. This looks nice, but I personally just made a excel document in my computer which I fill out after each fishing day. It's more like a fish notebook, I write down a lot more information about each individual fish.
  23. I love these little forest streams you guys have! So different from the streams I'm used to. Nice shots ghostdncr!
  24. Thank you Kirk, some very nice photos on there! I really like this one:
