  1. That's a great loking pattern. I just picked some of the smaller sculpin helmets last week and can't wait to try them out. What size B10S are you using?
  2. Do a google search on Beck's Super Bugger. I tie them in black, olive, tan and orange and have an absolute blast with that little fly. I typically tie it on a size 6 but go up to a size 4 and a larger set of eyes if I know that there will be current or deeper pools. I've caught smallies, trout and several species of panfish on it. Give it a try.
  3. I love articulated streamers and one of my favorite for smallies is my Mr. Nasty. It's about 5 inches long and the "S" swim action makes it a blast to fish. I heard Lefty once said "if it ain't chartreuse, it ain't no use" and I believe it. My top 5 smallies have all came on chartreuse baits.
  4. Here's one that I call the Freakshow. I've had a blast on this with smallies.
  5. Here's one of my favorite fall buggers for my area.
  6. I've tied these on a TMC 2499 in size 6 or 8. I like the gap between the foam better than the 200R's that I was using.
  7. I fished it last week adn dropped a size 10 zug bug off of it and had no problems with it floating. I used 2MM foam so it floats high. Here it is in yellow and green:
  8. Yes, I bought the size 6 cutters.
  9. I read this forum often and really appreciate the tying tips for us newbies. Here's a recent hopper tie of mine. Let me know what you think:
  10. I've bought several packs of material from him and never had a problem with delivery or communication. I don't think you can go wrong with the H2O twist or Congo Hair.
  11. I picked up a 2 RPM motor on eBay last week for $9.99 and free shipping.
  12. Big articulated streamers, for smallmouth, would be great.
  13. Throw in some Alabama football and you have all of the bases covered!
  14. I've tried the TMC 9495, in size 2 4 & 6, and like the straight eye along with the length of the hook but really want something that has a bigger gap. Any suggestions?
  15. I Appreciate the help. I picked up a tube of Fletch Tite on eBay and really like it.
  16. What's the best glue for attaching dolls eyes, stick ons, etc. to my flies?
  17. I picked up a pack of Hareline belly hair, while traveling over the weekend, and was surprised as to how short the hair was. Boy, did I ever make a mess with it. This is going to be a real learning process. Guess I can give the ugly early attempts to my buddies!
  18. I'm going to try tying some deer hair bugs and not sure if I should use deer body hair or belly hair. Which one is best?
  19. I've made several orders from J Stockard and also from Bear's Den. My last order from JStockard never arrived and they were very good about refunding my money. Scott and his staff at THe Bear's Den are nice people and ship your material fast plus they will only charge you the actual postage cost so if you need a small order, you won't get hit with a $5.00 shipping charge. I've made a few orders from the guy at The Fly Tyers Dungeon too.
  20. Let me know what you guys think. I'll likely remove the back hook before hitting the water so there's no more damage to the fish should they really attempt to hit one of these things.
  21. Do you pierce the hide with the hook or run the leader material through the hide with a needle? I've tried pushing the hook through the rabbit strip but can't quite get the look I want so the fly flows freely.
  22. I'm trying to tie some large streamers, with rabbit strips, and want to use a stinger hook to help with my short strikes. How's the best way to attach it to the rear of the rabbit strip? I've used 20 & 30 pound fireline to attach the stinger off of the main hook. Thanks for any help you can provide.
  23. I fish the smallmouth version and love the rod. I use one of my old 7/8 Redington RS2's and it balances just fine. I've thrown the largemouth too and think if you love throwing big flies, these rods are the cat's meow. I fish a number of small rivers where you don't have room for false-casts and these rods are made to pick up the line and shoot it. I told my fishing buddy that you could throw a small house cat with it!
  24. I'm looking for some suggestions on big streamers for browns. My local river has some really good sized browns but I'm not sure as to what to throw at them.
  25. I'm new to tying and am having trouble getting my rabbit patterns tied properly. My trouble seems to be when I'm trying to wrap the collars. I'm seeing too much of the hide. Do any of you kow where I can find a tutorial on this or anyone have some tips? Thanks
