I wish my wife would cut squirrel tails for me. She wont even touch a commercially prepared bucktail. Never mind roadkill. I am very envious. That woman is a keeper!

Bass pro is not too far away from you in foxboro. They have some fly tying stuff. But its not like hitting a good lfs. Perhaps a ride to bears den in taunton (south towards ri). They will have everything you would ever need

I got my ott lites cheap off the auction site. So i have 2. Both 13 watt. One affixed to my table and the other is a floor lamp style so i move it around based on my needs. I too have looked at the norvise lamp but i dont think its a daylight bulb ( i assume it could be changed to one if its not. ). Try the desk model out. You can always go bigger later. Or retrofit an architects lamp with a screw in ott bulb.

If i could post pics i definitely would. She was so proud of herself. -
Foam spider and foam beatle/creature! I am a very proud papa!

Was just putting a few of the mono tied flies into my box. The green really stands out. And 12lb test really gave it a wide flat body profile. Looks cool. I will definitely be doing more. Going to look for other vivid mono colors to experiment with.

I have 2 ott lites on my bench and a 2ft flourescent above to illuminate my cabinet. Only thing i want to add is a lighted magnifier. Currently i use a giraffe magnifier. I prefer the daylight bulbs to everything else.

The magazine said to do an overhand knot to start then successive half hitches left and right (just do the correct knot for each side). I tried it with green mono and red mono. Then .5mm stretch magic. All worked well. Different colors gave varying effects. Not bad.

Another way to solve the clamp issue is to get one of the adjustable wood clamps and clamp your pedistal and or your large pine board to the table you are working on. Had to do this once when the table i had access to was too tall to tie at comfortably. I clamped my regal to a board and clamped that under the tabletop.

I saw this in an old fly fishing and fly tying magazine (uk based). I just recently tried tying up a few. After the first couple its actually not all that difficult. I have found that 12lb colored mono seems to show up best. Especially green/chartreuse. Anyone else doing these? It was in the dec 2010 issue. Sorry i cant post pics.

Might pass for a red wasp as well. Will catch fish.

Make up a few more while you are at it. Looks like a its going to be a productive little pattern.

I catch it here in boston on nesn, they go to various locations in ne canada and other locations around the new england area. Lots of nice fishing with tips mixed in, they have a website as well.

Those are truely awesome!

I work outside and my hands are rough and i cant physically hold hooks that size anymore 18 and smaller. So hence the need for a better way to hold hooks to thread beads on.
-
I realized it was great at holding small hooks so i can thread beeds on them! No more using tweezers or having hooks and beads sail across my tying room.

Rich Murphy ties on a tiemco, if you want an upclose of the vise see him at one of the flytying shows . I have never seen the cottarelli in person. But the tiemco is quite the vise.

Grizzly hackle that is more black than white
petelangevin replied to petelangevin's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
I cant paste a link due to this foolish iphone i am using , but the video was of Pearly griffiths gnat and the cow dung fly patterns. Hackle was remarkably more black. I have never run into saddles or necks that dark here. The smarter tyers must be grabbing them first. -
I have been watching far to many videos on youtube lately and davie mcphail stated that he preferred more black on his gnat patterns and all i seem to see in my saddles is more white than black. I am using what i have for now but any clue about who makes a saddle like that.

Larger knob for regal revolution
petelangevin replied to petelangevin's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
Oops i saw many tyers at the show using a large knob on their regal revolution. -
My friend is considering getting the revolution but he does not like the small brass knob/handle unit that turns the vise. But i recalled seeing many pro tyers at the fly fishing show back last january, Anyone know who makes the big knob, regal does not list it on their web site. And no luck on a web search. Curious if anyone here had any insight on this.
