  1. Nice fish, and wet and cold describes our spring perfectly.
  2. 72 deg in boston today
  3. I am good. Its a reel i was configuring for a bass rod. I am really all set but ty for your generous offer. I was really just trying to get the reel usable.
  4. It may take a bit, i dont have a micrometer, Maybe after covid lockdown i can get to harbor freight to get one. I should have one anyway
  5. Hi mike, that makes sense, without the o ring i added it would spin and birdsnest. But now i can control how fast it spins. So its good enough for a back up or a panfish reel. I can palm the reel as well to slow it if need be.
  6. This is the unit that seized. The bearings were all seized to the outer cup, The previous owner did no real attempt at maintaining this reel.
  7. I dont think it will fit. This is the cheap pos that llbean was passing off as a fly reel. Looks workable but when its gone there is very little that can be done with it. Sad, llbean used to put out some good gear, granted it was always another companies just rebranded. Why bother with a bearing at all?
  8. Very cool bird, the rock ptarmigan has great patterns.
  9. Ptarmigan never seen them, used similar to grouse/pheasant?
  10. What do they look like?
  11. Llbean (sad that they don’t sell repair parts ) does not offer rebuild kits for base reels. A cheap oneway bearing got ruined by previous owner who never cleaned it after saltwater fishing. Its a cheap quest 3 pos reel but it will be ok for bass fishing. Pulled it all apart and only solution was a 3c o ring. Works in a pinch.
  12. The 850/950 are monsters, make great small tuna reels. You could see if someone will swap for a smaller reel. I had a 950 but ended up selling it as i could not justify keeping it.
  13. Amazing work! Anyone would be proud to carry one of those. Heirloom quality right there.
  14. Along the same line, the sparrow. https://youtu.be/jMmmd-gq6Y8
  15. The larger ones can be used on patterns like in the picture. If you look up jack gartside soft hackle streamer or perhaps the chickabugger from Cheech at flyfishfood. Jack’s website is still up, he had done an article about ringneck pheasant skins and what each specific feather was good for, its definitely informative reading.
  16. its good to be on top of spammers another website forum i lurk in has constant spammers who have immediate email access. They get bounced but try again and again. Then you have forum trolls who cause mayhem and i watched a whole great surfcasting website die because of it. Went from thousands of hits a day to one a week or less. Its sitting abandoned very sad from its heyday.
  17. This person does not seem to be spamming. Just a vague question, give a little slack then if they are spamming it can be handled by admin.
  18. You need to experiment with soft fibers, Cut to length and blend in a coffee grinder.
  19. I have two presently, an old penn 650 ss that i converted and a star 8000s that came with a manual bail and a bailless kit. Supposedly the bailless setup is designed to prevent accidental breakoffs. It works well but takes practice and night fishing with it is out for me as i can’t verify its laying line right. I use the manual bail at night as it wont close until you flip the bail down manually. https://www.amazon.com/Star-Rods-S8000-Spinning-Reel/dp/B07S3FP2Q1
  20. Here is a new pattern for you, and you might have ready access to the main ingredient in your own back yard.
  21. i use these scissors to cut wires, but i am a telephone cable splicer.
  22. James you can use outdoor led flood bulbs in those flexible arm desk lights and they give off a ton of light without getting hot. And the bulbs are cheap at home depot too. i got two of these lamps for 5$ each when an architect office upgraded to expensive led lamps.
  23. Are you asking or going to demonstrate it for the rest of us?
  24. I used to be the guy who took 10x to get the boat down the ramp, i drove old timers nuts. Fast forward 25 years, I drive a big utility truck and pull horse trailers for my daughter i can back up a lot better. But i know your frustration and no one should bust your ⚽️ as we have all been that guy.
