  1. Hey guys thanks for the info.

I will be fishing all types of waters

sometimes i will have to sling a little farther than usal

and no cover will be fished

I was actually looking at a orvis clearwater outfit

I actually have a 5/6 wt bamboo that need recon. i am thinking about doing that instead of buying a new rod. what is everyones take on that (new rod or fix the bamboo)

  2. It's been several years since I fished it, but remember beautiful pocket water and lots of fish. I tried a fairly mixed bag of both drys and nymphs and seem to recall having great luck with small Stimulators and Elk Hair Caddis on the surface and the Bead Head Prince nymph, in particular. I'm sure locals will weigh in with more specific patterns, but those did just fine for me.

I found splendid fishing on the little creek running through the Smokemont area, but can't remember what flies were deployed in that episode. A good portion of that trip was spent side-stepping bears, which seemed to be everywhere that week! I'm thinking the brookies were hitting small wets of some type, with red being a significant color.

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my memory the most. This is why we need to keep accurate fishing journals. ;)

Hey thanks friend, I will defiantly. try all of your tips!

  3. Jaedyn Nicole was born June 8th at 11:35 AM Pacific Time, she weighed 8lbs 4ozs and is 18 inches long. She has her momma's eyes and dad's nose and mouth and is absolutely perfect in everyway!!

This grandmother can't wait to get on the plane Friday so I can get out to Calif and hold this angel!! Her first fly fishing vest and rod are packed in my suitcase too!

Congrats!!!! Your Grand Baby is absolutely beautiful!!

  4. A short time ago, there was much discussion in Lexington and Louisville about the Commonwealth supporting the Coal industry. Most Central Kentuckians were dogging the industry and creating a vibe of demonism. I sent one letter the the editor of the Advocate Messenger . It was very short. I simply asked if everyone in Lexington, Georgetown, Danville, Midway, and even Frankfort like having heat and lights. " Cause your power comes from the EB Brown Dam on Herrington Lake, a coal fired dam that is burning 3/4" stoker from Pike County mines, hauled by Larry Wright Trucking from Whitesburg, Ky. Sure sounds like an awful lot of money and jobs at stake." The positive responses it generated were very suprising. It was nice, for a change. Now gas well fracking, that's a whole 'nother animal there, but I digress.....don't want to distract from 'Funk's great thread!

Here's another Big Daddy moment caught on film!

Smart man, alot of people don't look at things in that way but oh well let them sit in the dark..lol.. yeah I gotta agree I would def. not turn my back to that little lady of yours Hub, she might hit ya like a spider monkey...lol... nice looking family that you have there man.

  5. Spears,

Dug many a drift and slope in Perry, Letcher, Pike, Knott, Harlan, Leslie, and Bell Counties. Should have stayed in the mines...the money was better and it was safer than what I do now.

Love the mines man, alot of people these days are miss informed about them. Everyone I work with are like a brother to me. It is always good to see fly fishing coal mining supporters.

  9. Hi Paul,

this is off course my own opinion, (For What It's Worth)

as for kevlar, and other threats than GSP, they are usually either to weak or too bulkey.

What you can try to do with GSP (when having trouble with cutting) is to build up tension slowly, usually when you build up tension slowly you won't have the trouble of cutting the material, you will even be surprised how much tension you can build up (I can even break my thread without cutting the hair (WAPSI 100 denier).

on the other hand, when you build up tension too fast you will be surprised how little you will need to cut the hair. a quick jerk will give you a spray of hair in the air :) :)

    I'd say give it a try ;)

    ~ floris

I have no problems with the GSP its the Kevlar I don't like GSP is great but my personal prefrence is the regular 140 denier by danville and I think I am fairly proficiant of a deer hair tier here is one of my patterns http://www.flytyingforum.com/pattern6577.html

Steel head slayer that was some crazy spinning, awesome!

  10. I'll help you out here, young man. You can have from the Powerplant at Louisa to one mile above the Wagon Wheel Restuarant. My wife and I will take from there up the canyon to the stateline. HA! Great fishing if the water is right. I'll taken several trophy class smallies about 1/2 mile above the part. The boulders and rolling gravel will punish your knees and ankles, but it's worth the wade. Poppers and craws kill them in that stretch.

I am taking notes and triangulating. I figure the white space is where the fish are. Thanks to all this is better than a subscription to Eastern Fly Fishing. You got honey holes, patterns and pictures. :yahoo:

    ROFL

gotta watch what you say with 25000 people listening in. :P

LOL That is true I guess
