  1. Fishing is great !! caught native trout in the upper Saco, rainbows and brookies in the Ellis and brookies and rainbows in the Wildcat {Jackson village area]. Water is getting low, weathers been excellant.
  2. The fishing has been great for the last 2 weeks. Ellis in bartlett and the saco in N. conway have been stocked and it shows the rivers have been a little on the high side so wadding has been tricky. stop by the North Country Angler in north conway for local info . This is a great shop run by a knowlegdeable staff ,check out their web sit @northcountry angler.com Ihave been tying a spiner pattern found on thier video in tying flys
  3. I have had luck with the Mickey finn also. I caught 2 nice rainbows [ both about 14"]in the saco N. Conway area in the white mountains of NH The water was high after a recent rain and a little cloudly.I used a 1/4 down stream cast ,let it swing below me then 6" strips in with a pause between.
  4. Boy, it sure does. Maybe that avatar ought to be a tortoise. I thought about using the post-New-Year's-Eve-stayed-up-too-late excuse, but then realized nobody would believe me. I would like to join this swap as it's my first and caddis is my go to fly in the white mts .not sure what to do or is this a invitaion only ? thanks, bear
  5. Sanibel and captiva islands are beatiful, lived there 30 yrs.before moving back to NH. Try the islands to the right when you first get noto the causeway,a short paddle in a kayak. Inhave done well over the years along the mangroves there and also the pot holes on the way over to the island the first Island is fishermans island if i remember correctly try shrimp& crab pattens and clouser's you can ALSO TRY THE BEACH AREA BETWEEN SANIBEL AND CAPTIVA [blind pass],GET THERE EARLY AS the PARKING LOT IS SMALL . DONT FORGET YOU WILL NEED A FLORIDA SALT WATER LICENSE .when you get on the island go right at the 4 way stop the shop is abot i/4 mile on the left.GOOD LUCK AND DON'T FORGET THE SUN SCREEN GEAR!!!!!!
  6. sitting at the dining rm. table I hear a noise behind me . I look out the open screened window were my trucks parked [ no more than 10' behind me at this point I get up and open the door to the stair and this ------ bear jumps down of my truck after peeling the hard tongue cover of at the front hinge end !!I'm yelling at the bear as loud as I can [ he's at the front of my truck and i'm on the stair and he's not moving. I was planing on going to the dump and decided to wait until tomorrow ,also had fish parts in trash from a fillet and release rainbow sss .] Any way I go inside and grab the 9 mm go back out to the stair platform and he' and the rear of the truck checking out my torn off cover.. I go out and fire of two rounds and you could here that bear running through the woods. I now sit at my fly tying desk on the second floor overlooking my truck loaded for bear . Hope I've seen the last of him. You can never be to care full by hte way the trash bags [just 2 small ] sit in on the kitchen floor until tomorow..
  7. 1- cut 18" pcs. of fluorescent dacron line backer 2- take a bodkin and push into line center at 2" in from end of line towards end 3 insert a piece of fine wire [about 4" folded in half and pinch folded end tight with pliers]and let it come back out after it has pushed through 1/2 ". 4-now take end of line and thread it into wire loop, about 3/4 " then pull back through dacron and out leaving a loop . It's handy to put a pencil in the loop end to keep it from pulling through to far also I ues a pair of needle nose pliers rolled around the wire to add in pulling it through. 5- trim excess and super glue section that is doubled back to secure.[can whip ends before gluing,I didn't] MATERIALS AND TOOLS LIST- dacron, light wire, bodkin, needle nose pliers, super glue, colored marker if using white dacro [ to color line ]
  8. HAVE BEEN MAKING SOME NEW STRIKE INDICATORS UOT OF FLOURESCENT YELLOW LINE BACKER [dacron],SEEMS LIKE THEY SHOULD WORK WELL AND LAST FOR A WHILE. My QUESTION IS WHERE TO PUT THEM? i FOUND THE IDEA IN THE MUSTAD WEB SITE ,BUT NO MENTION OF WHERE TO PUT THEM. they ARE ABOUT 16" LONG WITH A LOOP ON EACH END.i 'M GUESSING BETWEEN THE TIPET AND THE LEADERS LAST SECTION? they SHOULD CAST WELL AND WILL ROL UP WITH THE REST OF THE LINE.I MADE ONE CHANGE IN THE WAY THEIR RECIPE WAS SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO WHIP FINISH THE ENDS, EASIER FOR ME .I'LL LIST THE STEPS IF ANY ONE IS INTERESTED. THANKS FOR ANY HELP !!!!!
  9. I live in Glen wich is a 5 minute drive to the ellis, the rocky branch is at the end of our street where native bookies can be found, also good native 's in the upper ellis [pinkham notch]. lousy weather today lets me re-stock flys i've been losing in the brush. hot flys lately- grey fox,red quil, sulphur dun, adams light
  10. Thanks for the report. I fished those places you listed many times. Mostly in the late summer & early fall. Had some great times staying in Chocorua and fly fishing the Saco from Artist Falls Brook to just below Lucy Brook in North Conway.. Is this your home waters?
  11. Fishing could'nt be better, the lower ellis is hot [rainbows and brookies] and the saco flyfishing only sectionis as good if not better[large browns and brookies] 6-17 16fish on the saco,6-18 4 fish,6-19 6 fish [short day], 6-20 3 fish, 6-21 & 22 ellis 9 fish.evening and morning both very good
  12. Recently a freind gave me 4 fly reels that where his dads. All of them are right hand and i'm trying to change them to left.3 are nice old llbean reals and the other a mayrat.[all the reels are in great condition] I was able to change 1 of the llbean double l's by removing the spool and fliping the cam gear and re-spooling the line. The other double l when repeating the same proceedure made no differance??? the only differance I can see between the reels is a slight differance in the color. The maryat when opening up is tottaly different ,.
