  1. Hey Batman. Actually I have found rubber legs on alot of large nymphs work great. The fly I sent though was a pattern called the Murray's Hellgramite, or at least a take-off from it and it has caught many fish. I wanted to tie something a little different because a bugger is a bugger so to speak and the M.H. is sort of a bugger with a bit extra. Hope it catches fish for you as well.....Kerry
  2. I Googled Bigfoot hair, but couldn't find it?? Llama isn't really long enough nor does it have the qualities of yak and while the Big Fly fibre is nice (I have a few colours) it really doesn't come close to Yak either in my humble opinion. Basically Yak is about 10 to 12 inches and more like kinky polar bear, very good translucent properties.
  3. It is not so much that I am lenient, though yes with these swaps I tend to be, but one of the sets was sent back because it had an error in the address so he re-sent them and I am just waiting. As long as people communicate and the rest of you don't mind, I will do what I can as far as waiting goes. As it is, pretty much everyone had them in the mail within 3 days of the mail date, which is pretty good. The rest is up to our postal systems.
  4. Okay I am waiting on one set of flies folks. Thought I'd better update you all while I had a minute. Hopefully they will be here this week....Kerry
  5. Paul they will get there the Canada Post mail sloth is slow but sore....er I mean sure!!
  6. Welcome! I was born and raised in the Victoria area and can think of few better places to discover a new life lease. My dad and mom grew up there. We fished all over the island for years and I go back when I can. There is a fellow who runs one of the Ferries for the harbor, his name is Graham Barnard and he is a flyfisherman as well, he may be of some help to you if that is what you are looking for. Hope to hear more about your fishing there, I am a little green with envy, but I'll get over it....Kerry
  7. Nice carp! How was your trip with your daughter?
  8. See what you started!! :hyst:
  9. So far I haven't found anything that would satisfy me as a substitute. Are you having trouble finding it?

    Starling????

I have used it and it does have a similar effect, not as defined, but still not bad.
  11. I second the thought on the Royal Wulff. My first one looked like a road killed Christmas decoration. The streamer is fine. I see alot of the patterns with an oversized head epoxied so if that was a worry don't worry. With the white wing on the streamer, it looks like deer hair? Purely for aesthetic reasons, just pull the deer hair out if it has not got a natural tapered tip. One or two of them look broken, but again this is for looks, it does not affect the fishability. Hopefully you will get to fish them soon.
  12. Nice sedge. I would have them with clipped hackle and full length hackle. Have you had a chance to fish this yet?
  13. Sorry to hear that Dustin, it is hard to lose someone you love, but I suspect much of what she was will live on in you. Take care mon ami....Kerry
  14. Nice pattern! Gotta love deer hair.
  15. Oops! That could explain the look of suprise on their....never mind. I love this pattern, I think it will work well on pike too.
  16. Lithuanian bats eh? It's been awhile, but I think I can find my stakes and garlic water in an old backpack under the stairs. Just point the way and I'll take care of the infestation one more time. Teach me to get all soft and comfy..... :ripped: Nice fly by the way......
  17. FC you are the Swapmeister, I will abide by whatever you want. I do agree with your thoughts though.
  18. Sagittarius has a good point. Start with materials for some simple patterns...woolly bugger etc. and/or local patterns and then as you want to tie more patterns simply add the materials you need. This gives some structure to your purchasing which will last about, well....you'll find out. Luck......Kerry
  19. Simple pattern, potential for adapting colours easily, that is a great fly!
  20. No problem really, I will make up tags for them....Kerry
  21. Hey Madkasel, have you used the Crease flies before? I was in the Crease Fly swap and have a bunch of them. I was thinking that when fish are feeding on schools of baitfish, the baitfish will come to the surface and flip along on their sides. This is true on the ocean where I fish salmon. I would think that if the Crease was fished right on the surface when this kind of activity was happening, it should be effective.
  22. I thought of that, but I knew you would come through.
  23. Hey I got Bryans' flies today!! They are a cool pattern especially considering what I sent you. So you did a great job and you seem to have retained your sanity. Nice job Bryan, I hope you enjoyed the challenge. One set left and they are in the mail so this should be wrapped up and on the way back to everyone by next week. I'll let you all know....Kerry
  24. I thought this would spoil the suprise, but it has increased the anticipation instead! Thanks for the pictures, lots of these will be great trout flies as well!
