awesome. What flies worked well for you

this august i am renting a house on tupper lake with my family and i plan to do a lot of fly fishing. Does anybody know of any successful flies for bass or pike in lake tupper or any of the surrounding lakes. What im really asking is if any of you have had any success up their. There are not a lot of fly stores around their, so i plan to to the majority of my flies before i go. any help is greatly appreciated.

i have been fly tying for a couple of years now, and the only thing i cannot do well is deer hair flies. The problem im having is that i cannot get the hair to stay in place. I can make it very even, but it always slips on the hook shank. The thread i use is the gudebrod GX2. Does anybody have any helpful advice on how to help me
