Yeah, if the city stops turning off the lights. The spot to fish them is on a river bend in a small town. On this bend the city park and bridges have many lights that attract baitfish and the Gar follow. Due to large mayfly infestations, the town keeps the lights off now to avoid the swarms. Its about a 3 hour drive for me and I only saw 2 Gar with my headlamp and didn't have shots. Damn city ordinences.

Looks like a fallfish. http://www.cnr.vt.edu/efish/families/fallfish.html That's what I was going to say! Nice Fallfish. They hit flies readily and get bigger also.

Good tip! I wonder if Walmart would notice if their brooms all got a haircut.

Sweet looking bug man. That would work for many many species from Carp and Sunnies to Trout and Salmon....very cool.

Thats exactly what I made it for. When the Crappies are up shallow under docks and such, they just smoke it. I bought a pack of colored mylar twist ties from the hobby shop and they make great body wraps. I made red ones, blue, green, gold and they all work very well and of coarse extremely durable. Bass love to nail them also.

Thanks, the dub I used has green in it its just hard to see in picture. With the emerald Ash Borer invasion it should be a good pattern. It would be better with legs, but I can't ever find good legs. The Japanese ones guys use look good, but I can't find them and they're probably overpriced.

The rubber isn't really heavy, but I love the idea of a foam back. Might have to try that! I'm headed to the Chip in Sconsin this weekend for a multi-species smorgasboard and will be experimenting. :headbang:

I told the wife that we should sneak away for a week for one last awesome trip before the baby comes. I mentioned Fla, Cali., even Puerto Rico, but she said she wanted to go west and go fishing in the mountain streams of the Great Rocky Mountains. Neither of us have ever been over there. Salt lake City and the Grand Canyon is as close as we've gotten. The wife mentioned Montana and It's very hard to find reliable information for areas to go and stay. Everyone you call has the best fishing, cheapest rates, and five star service (according to them). We're not looking for somthing extravagant. I nice little cabin in the woods with a bathroom is all we'd need. Camping with mountain weather, baby, and bears and Cougars around don't sound appealing right now, so a cabin, lodge, or hotel will be the ticket. I also don't want to spend $1000 a day to stay. Where should we go?? I think the Big Horn is about the most famous river over there. Is that the spot to go? We want to be in mountainous areas and not the praries. Rainbows, Browns, and Brookies would be fine, but Cutthroat, Goldens, and Bull Trout would be way way better. I'd also love a shot at a Mt. Whitefish, Grayling, or any various awesome Sucker specie over there. Any ideas guys????? Point me in the right direction, I have to get it planned soon! Thanks

Sweet looking fly! Where do you get the tin & wool thread? Do you make it? It makes nice looking legs.
