In my experience it depends on the fly pattern. On some of my flies, adding eyes greatly increases bites but on other it works the opposite. I would experement with your patterns and see if there is any noticable difference.

Sorry for the size and quality. I'm kinda proud of it though.

Brook Trout on Streamers
rg732122 replied to MegaTroutFishing's topic in Fly Fishing Gear & Techniques
Beautiful trout! And a very useful fly as well! -
So I have been taught by my great uncle the art of Maine salmon trolling streamers. This is the first spring season I have had the oppertunity to use some of my own flies to catch landlocked salmon. These are just two of the 11 salmon I caught today. The one on top was 23 inches and just over 5 pounds.

Leaving to Idaho tonight so here is my arsenal of ice flies

Nice flies! Fishing through the ice can be alot of fun. Gool luck to you! -
I like to leave out a minnow trap with bread or meat in it, leave it in the water overnight. Nice way to collect all sorts of water insects that you may not catch just looking around. The only problem is you have to weed through the fish in the trap to find the bugs.

I enjoy all forms of tying. I just get lost when it comes to what materials to buy.

I am quite new to fly tying in general. Only about 4 months ago did I start. I have recently dabbled in tying realistic ants and was wondering if I could get some pointers as to some good beginer patterns. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nick

Thanks for the advice. Its sitting frozen in the freezer until I figure out what to do with it. Just hated to see it go to waste on the side of the road.

I recently came across a no longer living rabbit. I would like to preserve the hide to make strips. What is the process in doing so? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Nick

I have looked everywhere for instructions for the original jerry's smelt but have only found peoples personal varients. Can anyone help me out?

I've only been tying about 3 weeks now and wanted some honest opinions. I have caught landlocked salmon on both and a brown on the Mickey Finn

I coat mine with Hard as nails nail polish. They seem to hold up better to being chewed on after.

Thanks again for all the imput. Now all I have to do is wait for the tails to dry before I can start tying them!

Thanks for the imput. Its gonna be a long day at the bench but I wouldn't want it any other way :yahoo:

As of the past few weeks I have been given several of both. I have not been tying my own flies very long and I was wondering if anyone would give me some simple flies to tie with them. Any help would be apreciated. :help:

I Just started tying a few weeks ago. My uncle has been tying for more than 60 years and decided to pass the torch down to me. Its actualy quite an honor. I love fly fishing altogether, but my favorite is trolling streamers for slamon and brown trout. Heres one I caught on one of my own streamers.
