We go to Gulf Shores every year and I do pretty good fishing clousers from the beach. Mostly ladyfish but they put up a good fight and like to fly.
-
Those are nice. I don't understand why I don't tie tube flies.
-
Air mixing works great. Takes just a minute to get a good feel for it and then you are off. Very quick too.

Ladyfish are a blast to catch. I catch them on the fly every summer at the beach in Alabama. They are fliers.

Welcome. The Current is a beautiful place.

Everybody is always picking on your frog.

Clear Cure Goo makes them. http://www.clearcuregoo.com/page28/page28.html CCG has some of the best eyes on the market and are really great people.

I like the idea of an aluminum one. Something different.

Don't use anything bigger than a size #20

The tailwaters at the head of Taneycomo are known for scuds and midges. And they do catch fish. But I also catch a lot of fish on streamers. I think it's just a choice, they can't tell a fish what they like to eat. -
Been thinking more smallmouth and white bass.

Those are nice. I know a little wild trout stream that I'd love to bounce them down.

100% agree. While these flies may very well catch fish, they in no way mimic a spinnerbait. The most important parts of a spinnerbait are flash and vibration. Putting a little poof of flash material in no way replaces the flash that is created from a spinnerbait blade that is spinning. And there is zero vibration from that poof. Not to mention the fact that you can't retrieve a fly like you retrieve a spinnerbait, it just won't happen. I have seen guys use a small spinnerbait blade on a fly to try to get that vibration, but everyone of them has a major issue. The weight that is needed to keep that blade from rolling the fly is typically just too much to be cast on a fly rod. Even if you use a plastic blade you still need that weight to keel the lure and keep it from rolling. And even if you do you still won't be able to retrieve it properly. Now that's not to say that these flies don't catch fish, I'm sure they do. But it's not the same as catching a fish on a spinnerbait. If you have never experienced an awesome day of spinnerbait fishing you need to do yourself a favor and try it out. Nothing beats it.

Call it whatever you would like. I get tired of the purist rhetoric in fly fishing. I go to catch fish with a fly rod. Mostly bass. I don't call my flies lures even if that is what the resemble because you cast lures with gear. So is this a fly or is this a jig? I know what it resembles, thats why it looks like that. I just call it a fish catching mofo.

I agree. Quick and easy is what I'm looking for and I can have a whip finish done in a couple of seconds with a Matarelli.

While the classics are beautiful I like yours better. I like flies I can stick a fish with. I know I could do that with yours.

Thanks SILKHDH! They do take time. This was one of a bunch I did for a fly swap. Don't know if I will ever feel that generous again.
-
Some people say that this is NOT a fly. But I don't care, I made it to cast with my flyrod and it catches fish so....

Was at one time. Grew up in Marlow. Now I'm I'm SW Missouri.
-
What part of Oklahoma?
-
I've only floated that section once and it turned dark before we made it to blunks. Need to do that stretch again when it warms up.
-
That's a long float in a day. I like Kerr to Galena. It's a little more controlled by spotted bass down there but at times they will hit anything that lands is the water. It's not a bad thing to run across a gang of 12 to 15 inch spots. But there are also some smallmouth that will break your heart.
-
I like all those spots. Fish the Little Sac to the North of Springburg. Beaver is another good one. Sometimes it's hard to decide which direction to go.

I'm another SW Missouri guy. Lots of good fishing around here.
