1. The 3M adhesive is waterproof. It's good stuff.
2. Thanks guys. You are right though, it is really a slider. I'm a big fan of flies that glide across or just under the surface.
3. I have bought almost everything for several years from B&H. Great people. AND I do have a good camera store in my town.
4. This is all great info. LF is new to me. Like I've mentioned in other posts on hard bodied poppers I use automotive urethane clear. But on the foam poppers that I want to have a nice finish I always use epoxy. It has a nice shine and is easy to get that smooth finish. But it ends up just being a hard bodied popper at that point. I haven't had any durability issues other than chips from bouncing off a rock or two. They will yellow and crack over time if you haven't added a UV protective coating but I have usually hung them in a tree by that point. I absolutely love the finish you can get with it though. Here's one of my divers that is soft foam head covered in epoxy.
5. Editing software should be for editing. Not morphing. I can't stand those over processed looks. And lots of these programs offer some great image management options and ease in uploading to photo sharing sites. And please don't even get me started on megapixels. I don't think it's the users with the obsession, I think that comes from marketing. I've made some really nice 20x30 prints from my 12mp DSLR. A 25mp might have made a better print if you examined them side by side with a magnifying glass but most would never see the difference.
6. That is amazing. Makes my bench in the garage look like a turd. Very jealous.
7. This. Like Crackaig, take a fly with you and take some test shots.
8. Yep that color looks a lot better. Going to be a really nice room.
9. I use Elements 7 and it handles RAW files just fine. There is a free codec that you have to download and install but it's simple. I could not live without RAW capabilities. I've been seeing info about this new format that Adobe will be using. Can't say that I am happy about that.
10. That's a good deal on Lightroom and it is an awesome tool. I use it, Elements and CS3 just depending on what I want to do or how serious the photo is. Photoshop Elements is a very simple program to use. Gives you the file management you need and has plenty of tools to edit your photos. Not as robust as LR but still worth the money.
11. <blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="Kirk Dietrich" data-cid="551127" data-time="1368337725">
flysmallie, I've seen that automotive stuff on-line and it sounds like a really good finish; I've wanted to try it but can't make the investment right now. I wondered if it could be brushed on.

Kirk

Well you can walk out to your car and tell it gives you a really nice durable finish. But it has to be sprayed. A cheap airbrush does the trick. You also need to spray in a well ventilated area and wear a respirator. The isocynates in the activator are nasty. It seems like a lot just to clear some poppers but its really not. Little expense to get started but it gives you such a nice coating with very little effort.
12. Yeah that 5 minute stuff does that but typically I have either lost or wore out the fly before it happens. The best thing I have found is automotive clear. But most are not setup for that. If you spray it right it won't run anything. It's expensive to get started but is the best coating available.
13. If you use the faster drying epoxy you could do it just by rotating it in the vice for a few minutes by hand. I still do it that way a bunch even though I do have a dryer. Or you could coat with Sally.
14. Classic. If I'm traveling to my spot alone then it's definitely loud and hard. But once I hit the water Mother Nature takes over. Well that and the voices in my head.
15. Thanks. I'm sure my daughters guinea pig is thrilled.
16. Full? Well dang it. I was going to impress everyone with my guinea pig bug.
17. This is the best frog I have ever fished. The legs are pine squirrel and have great movement in the water. Solid black has been the best producer.
18. Simple but effective. Marabou on top and bottom, little flash in between. Watermelon Candy dubbing and a skull. Think that one is a #4.
19. There is no way I can tie one of those salmon flies. I suck at that kind of stuff. If it needs a wing I just give up. I like that Flytire. Simple but beautiful.
20. Thanks Man. You know over the years I have acquired lots of different materials for masking. Not that I have done this a lot but I know what to look for. However none of them seemed appropriate for this particular round of poppers. Then it hit me. I knew where to find the perfect mask. I pulled out an old camp chair and cut the mesh cup holder out of it and there you go!
21. Thanks Kirk. It was my first successful attempt at balsa other than just a standard popping head.
22. Not sure if it qualifies for a fly, but it was created and will be fished as a fly.
