  1. Thanks for the tips.... Decided to bring an 8 wt and a 6 wt... probably a backup 8 wt as well.... Both reels are spooled with floating lines, but seriously considering purchasing a spare spool and sink tip.... Been trying to Tie when I can .... Heres a sample of what I got so far....
  2. Looking for a bit of advise ..... Heading to Skagway Alaska in 2 weeks, this is my 1st trip of this kind and trying to get gear together for the trip. Planning on taking an 8 wt as it's the heaviest rod I own. It's spooled with a weight forward floating line and about 200 yds backing. Will this be sufficient ? Do I need a lighter/heavier rod ? Also, what flies should I tie? I'm hoping to target kings, pinks, coho and maybe even Dolly Varden & rainbows… Any help would be greatly appreciated I'll be staying with my family that's there for the summer and hope to maybe hire a guide for one day (monies kinda tight) … I can't freakin wait !
  3. No need to return any of mine to me Mike. Keep the extras for your box. Thanks again for the host!
  4. WoW.... almost completely dropped the ball on this one.... Flies are ready but i Need an address... will ship today if I know where to ship to before post office closes I sure hope I'm not too late ...............dont wanna get on the "banned swappers" list....
  5. WoooooHooooo........ box-o-Pike flies arrived today. Just in time for some gorgeous weather........ Cant wait to get the Yak on a lake and try these out..... Thanks to all the participants and BIG thanks to RichMC for another great Host !!
  6. Swung by the local shop today to pick some materials up for this swap (grrrrr...no woodchuck!). Turns out the owner was actually a good friend of Fran's and had a handful of of flies that were tied by Fran himself. He says Fran was a great fisherman and friend and was suprised to hear that someone was hosting a "tribute" swap for him, considering how many of his patterns were "stolen" and renamed (comparadun=haystack). Anyhow, I got my hands on some excellent reference flies and once I spin up a few I'll decide on one for the swap...... just thought I'd share that !
  7. Mine should go out tomorrow or Wednesday as well.......
  8. Very Sweet pile and I mean PILE of gurglers showed up today....... Well worth the wait. As soon as mother nature cooperates I will definately put these to good use.... Thanks to all the tiers and a BIG thanks to Pat for the host
  9. Well heres what I come up with.... Pics not too good but its kinda an olive over white.... Hope everyone likes.... Need an addy and these should go out in the next week or so.... Thanks for the host.....
  10. Sweet box full of foam goodies showed up today ....... It's almost 70degrees in I can't remember how long..... Sure wish everything wasn't locked up in ice still, I'd be out trying these guys...... Nice ties everyone, thanks for the host........
  11. Ok.... I'm in ... Caught quite a few through the ice this winter and was gonna give them a shot on the fly this spring/summer. What better way to start a new box ....... Not sure of the pattern but thinking something red n white or blue n white (the fish I caught through the ice had some sort of blue shad in them I think they may have been alewives) What's the best time of year to target these guys? Do you normally blind cast or sight fish for them? I'm guessing edges of weed beds ? Flats near drop offs? Like I said never really specifically targeted pike so the learning curve will be fun....
  12. That was actually supposed to be a 5 not a 6 .... but still HUGE nonetheless.... Got quite a few in the 3 - 4 pd range out of that section in the last couple years... few and far between but definately there. If ya work hard enough for them you can find em !!
  13. Pat, I'm actually from Penn Hills and married into Burrell.... Nice area though...... The Kiski has cleaned up quite a bit and is turning into a pretty good fishery. Several trout clubs stock it regularly and the smallie/walleye population is getting better every year. I wade and float this river many times a year and its quickly becoming one of my fav spots due to how close it is..... One of my "goto" spots is just above/below the Leechburg Bridge ..... got a smallmouth there that was pushin 6 pds.... HUGE for this river. So, needless to say, Gurglers are gonna get some use here....... Thanks again for the host, canty wait to get them !!
  14. Hey all..... this may be the first time a host was waiting on me for flies .... Not sure how I feel about that, but they went out Thursday afternoon so he should get them by Monday.....
