  1. QUOTE (luvinbluegills @ Mar 4 2005, 04:42 PM) QUOTE (Graham @ Mar 4 2005, 04:37 PM) What a cool fly! The first realistic egg I've ever seen, very imaginative and creative. I bet those would sell, quickly. Nice tying. Graham Good point! Maybe we should transfer this to the Realistic forum! (I'm not kidding about buying some HFT! I've never really used any kind of egg imitation, but this one's got me ready!) Luvinbluegills,I don't Know how much they will be. I am on contract with Pacific fly group and I sent them samples 2 days ago if a fly shop in your area does there flys they can get them for you. It usually takes 3 to 4 weeks to come out of production. I am not much on production tying myself. I tried to take a pic. of pre glue, but batteries went dead in camera. In an hour or so when the recharge I will post a pic.
  2. Formula: Hook-Daiichi 1510-10 Yoke-3mm plastic bead(this one is orange)from spinner making supplies Thread-14/0 primrose spine- size A rod wraping thread black viens-size A tying thread Danville 210 Eyes-lg.black round rubber leg Egg-clear hot glue Thanks for the uplifting comments. I tie a bunch of the innerbodies up before I get the glue gun going. No marker envolved, tie the bug and envelop it in hot glue. The red viens are a small piece of thread tied in and split up. I like the name Stem cell.
  3. After screening the river a week ago I noticed that the eyes were very prevelant in the eggs in my screen. Then as I recalled other screenings I had done they were prevelant in those eggs also. So I worked on this embrio egg: eyes, spine, yoke, viens. I have yet to fish it because it is only a few days old but I am sure it will catch fish. But I am after a bigger species-Fly fisherman. What do you think? good, bad or indifferent?
  4. I have a customer asking me for mole skin. Has anybody seen it for sale latley?
  5. I prefer the look of a realistic fly when it comes off my my vise and I can say OH YAH! that will get them. Impressionistic flys:always seem to be a guess as to weather they are going to work or not.
  6. It is funny you would bring this subject up today. I was asked to tie a fly on a 14/0 hook, Well that is to big for any vise so I had my secratary hold the hook while I tied it today.
  7. I use glow in the dark beads to tie Glue bugs(egg patters). Riverborn also makes glow in the dark chenille,Flashabou has some glow colors too. This one has chartreuse beads in it.

    Ice fishing

Both jigs are offshoots of some patterns crappie guys showed me. I use them for Trout most of the time.
  9. In a way this one kind of tells us if fly tying is growing or declining.

Ice fishing my favorite. here are a couple. I hope this works.
  12. A buddy who teaches a fly fishing class has a saying he tells his students goes something like this: Don't skimp on hooks you spend hundreds of dollars on a fly rod outfit then buy cheap hooks, the thing that actually catches the fish,HUH!
  13. Not very impressed with the HMH. I tied a dozen size 4 agrivators yesturday, too much hook slipage and too hard too put the pressure on to keep it from slipping. I guess I will put it up on the shelf for sale. I have some Dynakings coming in this week maybe that will be the ticket.

    Live Bait

I am glad you guys posted this, I had no idea this happend, I travel to fish salt water once a year and hang a shrimp bucket off my waist, wow.
  15. I just recieved my new vise today decided on HMH have not tied on it yet but will do so after I write this. I can't stand to tie on true rotory vises: too many parts in the way or something is always moving when I don't want it too. I have tied on an old Renzette starter vise, with the round knob on the end, for 10 years. I guess what I am saying is each tyer has his own style pick a vise that matches you, if you have the bucks to drop 500.00. what the heck, have fun with it and it will work great for you.
  16. I like your thinking, should be just the difference to create a strike.
  17. I have the Stream Dance GLX, Max line speed 9' 5wt. Took it out for it's maiden voyage last saturday. It was the sweetest experiance. The flies went exactly were I wanted them to, the setting was crisp. What a pleasure. I have thrown the presentation. You will not be dissapointed. Warning: you will have to turn your back to the river when you walk up. The fish will jump right out to get on that rod.
  18. I used to use starling too,but now the whiting capes give me a variety of color and easier to use.
  19. I use a Mckinsey vise light, shines only on the fly,do not need a magnifier with it.
  20. You should be able to find Sierra's for around $35.00 the price is really beat up on them. you might also take a look at the fenwick cartride reel same price point, extra spools are alot less.
  21. Zebra midge! copper black are the most effective in utah. its just thread. I use 6/0 to tie quicker.
  22. enjoyed the contest alot. look forward to seeing one next year. way to go tyers.
  23. Very nice flies Philly, I like the quality of your ties. I can see the effort you have put into them. Your emerger is very clean and perfect semitry. I like the design of you irredesent beetle. Is that your own inovation? Will, this kind of put you between a rock and a hard place. I do not Know if Philly feels the way I do but if I had won I could care less about a prize it is more about having our flys on your site and seeing all the cool flys that others put out there. :thumbsup:Keep up the good work Will
  24. very impressive flys I was going to say how I voted but I did not want to effect how others may do so. Way to go tyers!
