  1. nice flies. the purple one looks like a good rainbow darter imitation. might have to tie some up for some of the bigger browns here.
  2. its a thread from the local craft shop called eyelash thread. you wrap and palmer it. this thing swims and breaths it is a very enticing fly
  3. A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by Esoxfeind: woody
  4. its actually an easy tie. it is basically a woolly bugger tied with unusual materials. its about 20 mins or so total time. it swims awesome. good thing the big browns and smallies like big and ugly 2.

  6. for native driftless area brookies i use pink squirrels #14 and white sparkle buggers size 12. they hit the bugger angry.
  7. when i target big driftless browns i car i box with several types of nymphs and another with a good verity of clousers and buggers. i fish the streamers early in the morning casting down and a cross and have caught many nice fish this way. on the way back up i switch to the nymph. both work well. best thing to do to get that trophy is get to the stream as the sun rise over the hill tops.
  8. yeah browns get real aggressive from 16-24" cause of peak sexual reproduction. developing eggs and sperm takes lots of energy.
  9. funny thing is i caught the 28" trout on a size 14 nymph and most of the really big fish i hook in to are as well. biggest streamer caught fish is 22".
  10. yes lots of nice fish! average about 17 in. biggest i have ever cought was 28" big male, i have had a few other monsters on but not landed them.
  11. those flies look good. i have never fished a tube fly. but i fish the driftless alot with a 5 wt and through #4 waited buggers and clousers on it no problem. small streams mean short casts. but out of curiosity what dos one need to tie tube flies? also where are you fishing WI,MN,IA,IL? I fish MN.
  12. I picked pike great fight and i love the hell bent way the kill a streamer! smalleis and carp are a very close seconded.
  13. hello iam from S.E. Minnesota. i have been fly fishing for 5 years. my main target has been trout. but with the riseing gas price and a quality northern pike fishery right here in town i have been bitten by the Esox bug there are also large numbers of smallmouth rivers in the area and some of those hold large browns as well. anyway i can not wait to tap this resource for patterns. nothing better than new flys and tight lines. tight lines.
