  1. I just want you geeks to know that there are others watching this thread. I have tied up several patterns this winter including some 'Headstands' to chase some carp if I can find them. I have been fishing a 3 small creeks here in middle TN for a few years now and I have yet to even see a carp. I haven't seen many smallmouth either but I have caught a few. I hope this thread continues for a while and maybe some other 'geeks' will pipe up.
  2. If you are fishing trout or maybe carp the orange could be a problem I suppose but for bass and pan fish I personally prefer the orange. These old eyes can see it better. I am old and fat so nobody cares what I like. hehehe
  3. Thanks for the replys. I really enjoyed the link to the " Ohio " Blonds. I still have my old copy of Bate's 'Streamer Fishing' and a couple of other old books on saltwater flies. I also still have a few of the Blonds that I tied 40 years ago for a trip to Fla. that I never got to make. I am still dreaming though. I also still have the old graphite 9' Diawa 9wt rod that was also purchased for the same trip. As I recall, about the only good reel was a FinNor and it was quite expensive for the day. Around $400 at the time if I remember correctly. You young fly flingers have lots of options for good reels and rods and lines today. I savor the options today.
  4. Do any of you old salts use any of the blond series flies? I think the blonds were at one time considered a 'must have' in the fly box. I haven't noticed any mention of them on the forum so I am decide if I want to tie up a bunch.
  5. These fly swaps are great though I have never participated. (poor tying skills)....I think it would be great if each fly was at least pictured and possibly have the receipe published. It would be great for some of us less skilled tiers. It appears that I am new here but I have actually been off and on this forum for at least 5 years and it is a great forum. I have learned more off of this forum in the last 5 years than I have learned in all the preceeding 30 years of tying and I thank you all for this knowledge.
