Count me in. Thanks for holding a spot for me. I appreciate it! Just had to check with my professor today about upcoming projects but I'm good. Also thanks for doing this. This should be a good one. Edit: I plan on doing a EP mullet/minnow pattern in tan/white or black/purple if thats not a problem. Y'all decide what color. Or I can do a High tie. Y'all pick.

Im good to go. Count me in.

Thanks Capt. That may have just helped me make up my mind. Thanks for the input! Good to hear it can take a little beating too. Got plenty of oysters around here.

Congrats on the red! I tried for the longest time to catch my first otf then after catching my first it was like a flip switched. Hope the same happens for you! Regarding the EP minnow, try going a little more sparse. I tie mine on a Gama SC-15 hook with the plastic EP eyes that come with the stem on them. They seem to add a little bit of weight and just enough to get it down. Another thing you can try is using a flourocarbon leader. Flouro is heavier than mono and gets down faster than mono. Give it a shot. Might make it work. Good luck!

Nice fish! I know what you mean about doing it all by yourself; not so easy. Any chance on a materials list and maybe a SBS for those flies? Im digging the black.

Yeah I'm on the coast of SC. I'd completely forgot about the Wulff lines. I had looked at getting one a couple months ago. Must have had a brainfart. Thanks for mentioning that.

I am in the market for a line that is more of a distance line than a short accurate casting line. I have casted the Airflo Bonefish line and am considering that but would like to know if there are other lines that y'all like. The one thing Im worried about is the fact that the air temperature can get down to the 30's on some days and the water temperature is around 60* (give or take 5*) and will stay cool for the next couple months. This is for a 7wt rod. Any recommendations?

Haha I hear ya. The ultralight got its test run with that fish. And most of my fishing is fly but I have no problem with breaking out a spinning rod every once and a while 😜. On another note Nikon, I think I'll be able to give you a review on that Hatch backing next week....the reel should be getting a workout a little farther north of us 😉. Ill be in the shop next week sometime I'm sure. Just got to find a break between fishing and duck hunting! And thanks y'all for the compliments on the fish and pictures!

Got out the weekend before last to fish with a friend of my dads who runs a guide service to find some new spots and schools for this winter. Fished from high to low tide and put about 12 fish in the boat. The smallest was 6lbs and the biggest was right at 11. Caught most on jerkshads due to trying to cover more water but we got a few on the fly. The one I got was an even 10lbs on the bogs and ate a "topwater" fly (EP minnow floating on surface). Then went out this past weekend with another friend and put the hurtin on some big fish again. Lost count after 15 fish again the smallest was about 5/6 lbs. All fish caught over the weekends were 100% sight casted. Got to love the cool temperatures and clear water! These did most of the work

Lookin good! Materials and maybe a SBS? I know some spotted fish that would eat that up
-
Good luck and let us know how you do!

What kind of line will you be trolling? A floating line is going to have less drag than a sinking line that is under the water surface. But I would think that a 10wt would be fine for it. There can't be anymore pressure on te rod than if you were actually fighting a fish on it. Also, you could just figure out a way (hold it if you have to) keep the rod horizontal so that all of the drag created from the line is on the reel. That's what I would do. Hope this helps.

Dang those look good. So is the name of the material fish scale? Any sites to order it? Never seen the stuff.

I'd join if there is one. Gotta see what my college courses are gonna be doing but I'm 90% sure I'd be down for it.

Fishing report, eight days at Flamingo
iFly replied to Capt Bob LeMay's topic in Fly Fishing Gear & Techniques
Awesome report capt. Thanks for posting it. Dang I need to get down there sometime and fish for tarpon! -
Some flies for low tide
-
Give em what they want. On this day the fish were barely tailing and covering water so I switched from a crab to the shrimp. Made a big difference.
-
Should have said that's what most days are like during the summer....
-
Flies like this Catch fish like this Start a lot of days like this Throwing this rod And depending on the type of game, throwing these To fish that like to do stuff like this Then taking pictures of their pretty tails Some days end like this And others like this Also spent a few mornings looking for some fast little critters Story of my life in a nutshell.

Great idea for a thread panama, ill make sure to post them up. I may like this more than the one I started. Haha
-
Kirk, haven't tried them yet but I'll see if I can find some. I need to restock my hooks soon so ill see if I can find a pack or two. Thanks for the suggestion.
-
The Gama SC-15 is probably my favorite hook to use btw. Short shank, strong, sharp, and a wide gap.
-
Thanks, I was wading for these fish. But I think it may have been you talking about getting a kayak in another thread... They are very effective for the flats. I love using mine. I've had tailers pass almost directly under it without spooking them. And you can cover more water. I use mine a good bit around here for the flood tides.
