Haha thanks. They were both healthy fish for sure. The first one was pretty chubby. The second one was pretty thick too.

3 ft of 40lb, 3 ft of 30lb, then 2 ft tippet section of 20 or 14lb flouro. Short leader. More accurate. I haven't seen a difference in response from the fish.

...backing. Nice to see you again. This fella was tailing up a storm. After a cast that was more luck than anything and another good run into the backing...

It didn't take but a couple minutes. On a 7wt rod. 14 lb floroucarbon tippet

I've never caught a bull otf let alone hooked one before that night. Thanks for the input Kirk. I'll make sure to remember that. I actually normally use the SC15 because I like the short shank and the wider gap but for this particular pattern I had gone to a size 6. (itty bitty fiddler crab pattern)

Ive been pleased with them so far but this time i was disappointed in them. But then again, theyre obviously a lighter hook and it was more of my fault because I should have had some on sturdier hooks in case I saw bigger fish. Good luck on your trips. Post up some reports.

Panama- thanks and good luck to you on your trip. Post up a report if you can! And the hook that straightened was a Gamamatsu B10S. I've have them crooked after a few fish but never like that. The hook I caught the other ones on are a Mustad 34007 size 4. Agn- thanks for the compliments. The fish was definately big. There were some times where he would tail and his whole tail an part of his back were out of the water. He was around 30 and probably a couple inches over that.

Had this happen yesterday....(look at hook) But made it happen today....Not the biggest fish but I'll take these anyday.

I'd also like to know if the color runs. If it doesnt it sounds like its worth the purchase. And could you post a recipe or SBS on that baitfish that is second from the top, if you dont mind.

why Fly backing not other braded line
iFly replied to Fish For Life's topic in Fly Fishing Gear & Techniques
One problem that ive heard is that because of the slickness of the braid itll spin on the spool if under high drag pressure. Ive also heard it digs into itself too. And i know for a fact that you would amputate a finger if you touched it if its getting pulled off at a high speed. I know this for a fact because I have plenty of cuts from braid on my spinning rods. But ive never had it on a fly reel so i cant speak from personal experience. Hope this helps. -
How'd you do? And #6 I small but it works. I only use them when tying fiddler patterns.
-
I use congo hair for it. It's the same thing but cheaper. The fly is ties on a #6 hook btw. Doesn't make much disturbance when it hits the water so it's good for putting it on their heads.
-
Came up with this (I'm sure someone else has too...) And took it out today to see if it worked..... And again about 15 minutes after.....
-
I will definitely tie up some of these. Great ties as usual!
-
Sure have. I broke off a decent red the other day up on a flat during the flood tide (the fly was the one on the top, actually). Ive given some to friends and theyve caught fish on them. They work for the neighborhood bass too (what doesnt?).

Thanks for the input. Peterjay- I didnt realize I posted this in two different sections....I was wondering why i didnt see it after i posted it.... Panama- I did plenty of research on them. I found someone local that had one and I casted it. I ended up purchasing the Rio Redfish. I just liked the line more. But come next Spring Ill probably get a Royal Wulff to put on my 7wt.

Nice fly! Whats the body material?

Thanks, and yes its Senyo's Laser Dub. Hook: Owner SSW 2/0 (pictured) Thread: doesnt matter Tail: Maribou or Rabbit. Original recipe calls for a Magnum rabbit strip but I think thats too big so I just use a regular. Body: Laser dub Eyes: 5/16" Adhesive Eyes Its a pretty simple tie, if theres interest I can do a SBS.

Sorry for the bad picture....I need to start using a better camera. Phone camera wont focus well in lower light situation. But I've been tying these in strong numbers lately....theyre light, swim like a baitfish and suspend well. I like the slow sink rate for sight casting redfish in the shallows.

Looking for someone with personal experience. Has anybody used them? How do they compare to other lines? Im looking at the Saltwater Triangle Taper or the Bermuda Triangle Taper to use for reds on my 9wt.

Looking for someone with personal experience. Has anybody used them? If memory serves me correctly, PanamaRed has..... Im looking at the Saltwater Triangle Taper or the Bermuda Triangle Taper to use for reds on my 9wt.

I really like this! Ill give one or two a shot sometime. They seem like they would be good up here for sight casting to reds when theyre shallow... Does the epoxy make much of a difference? If its not needed it seems like you could tie one in a matter of a couple minutes compared to waiting for epoxy to dry...
