At times I just like to watch him and end up laughing as he struggles to make anything, I love it. Its a great hobby for the kids to take up and hag out with dad lol

Yeah I hope that mine would rather be up a hill fishing some quiet loch than in the street causing grief. Hopefully they'll catch the bug if they get to some catch waters early enough. I have a local stocked water that allows bait and fly so hopefully in the summer hols she can land her first proper fish. I agree that many kids would be mush better off if they had a hobbie that would keep them out of trouble. To be honest I wouldn't really care what it was that they are doing as long as they are keeping their nose clean.

My six year old asked me if I was busy because he wanted to make a fly. I set him up with my old vise, some extra materials and gave him the reigns and to my surprise the end result was not too much worse than my first fly. I am sure I'm not the only father out there that let's the kids have a turn at the vise once in a while and I think it would be cool to see what they can come up with. Who knows they may create a pattern that kills by accident.

All flys are in the mail and on the way. Some mailed sooner than others so they should start ariving in the next few days. Thanks to all that participated, I look forward to throwing them. I will be running another swap. Gonna do something around the likes of a bass clouser/streamer swap so if your interested PM me and I will reserve you a place.

What fly did you get that sucker on? I'm going up to the Upper peninsula of MI for a week and plan on doing a lot of casting. I kinda want an idea of what they are looking for.

I have red marabou that is doing that right now. not too much of an issue cause it only bleads when it is left wet in the sun. for some reason the dye doesn't stay well in sunlight. other than that there is nothing wrong with it. I have actually thought about trying to wash all the excess dye out with warm water and some non scented dish detergent. but I just haven't gotten around to doing it yet. I have been told that the bleeding is due to the dye not being totally washed out or not completely set properly after the initial dying proccess.

No one freak out. I messed up my math and counting. We are still tying 14 flys but now with myself and seven other tyers we won't get two of our own back. Thats what would have happened with only six. We are all set now, I think lol

Go ahead and tie them up. I actually miss counted the number of flys and tyers so you would make up the extra two. Tie 14 flys and head them over here with a return envelope either with postage or enough to cover it and you will be just fine. Thanks for the offer I would have felt like a dumb ass sending two flys back to their tiers lol.

A ton better than my first. I tied a few and they fell apart after two fish which was a bummer they had pretty good apeal. Keep it up, you will only improve with more practice, and don't forget we all started somewhere

Biggest bargin: I picked up some very small beads that fit size 18 hooks, They where on clearance for about 45 cents a bag, with about 50 in the bag. they are not for flys but spacer beads for making spinner baits. Biggest waste would be the dyed deer hair I got at a local shop. poor quality and even worse the dye fades and stains everything. Im still trying to use it tho. don't want it to be a total waste.

Quick question. Would anyone have a problem with shutting down the extra spots. Tying 14 flys and trading two of each one? It seems as tho I didn't get the right timming lol. I'm open to any other ideas as well.
