I am always looking for peeps to talk to. I need some friends that are willing to talk fishing and gear, and not be all shhhh I don't want "HIM" knowing what i use to catch fish, even though we live in different states LOL. I would like to be a friend and I don't like gossip so your good there, at least you have someone to say look at what I caught

I am good with that. I would like a little variety in the patterns and so I say anything goes really.
-
Is there anyone that has a picture or pattern for some of these fly's. I have been needing some bass flys and cant pin point the patterns, so any would be greatly apreciated.
-
I would say maybe 16 or 18 would be good. That should give us a good amount of variety and not have too many so to have repeats. I will be tying a steelhead soft hackle in yellow and light tan. A color variation of a very good producing fly for my local rivers.
-
I would be in also, the only question I have is not so obvious to me LOL what would be considered a "soft hackle". I am new to the terminology and just don't have a real referance point i guess.

Update my TBD to a Peacock herl ant with Pheasant hacklle. I am also ready for an adress. should have them done in about an hour or less.
-
Ok I am no English major and I can prove it by saying I read your post as BASS (as in the fish) guitar and not bass as in realy low LOL I just had to make sure that I spread around a good laugh at my expence. I did

I do believe that the mods are keeping track of the drop outs and banning the ones that make a regular deal about it. I think they ask that you message them and let them know about the drop out and they will keep an eye on them.

Thank you I was looking for a pattern of that kind just was having a difficult time finding one.

I have a mock up of an ant for a swap and i would like so constructive critism on how it looks, possible omprovements, changes and or materials. I am open to all new ideas don't hesitate.

Here is my quick mock up of my entrie Its one of my own designs and I would like some constructive critasism before I actually tie them for the swap. Any improvements or optional changes let me hear them.

I know this won't help you today...But in a few weeks I should be done hosting. Then I'll start a new swap for trout. Don't know what type of pattern next I'll be hosting. All depends on what you swappers want and if we can get enough people to fill the swap. So maybe if we can get enough people to pic a category for the swap. You can start tying a dozen up and have them ready for the swap in a few weeks. That's the best I could do for you now.. I am very happy with that and I will do some searching for a good and producing pattern and I will get back with you about some ideas. Thanks and I so can't wait LOL

I am looking for a swap to participate in. If there is any one looking to start one I would be more than happy to get in on it. I am new so I may have a few questions but for the most part I'm ready

I am born and raised in Alpena. Its about a hundred miles south of the Mackinac Bridge. Due east from Traverse City and Gaylord on the east shore. It really is a fishing town, we have a brown trout festivle every year, that has a rather large turn out. We're maily known for the deep water fishing on Lake Huron tho. I know Alpena well I do alot of fishing in Onaway and live in Alger I am not too familiar with that area but know where it is at. Is there any good fishing spots there cause there isn't more than four or five at best and more often than not they all suck the majority of the time. I need to find me a good stream and do some better fishing I get frusterated when I try to experiment with new patterns and don't know if its me or the fly or the fish.

I only live about 50 miles north of the cabin in Alpena. If your ever planning on getting up this far let me know maybe we could get together for some coffee or some fishing. -
Ever happen to you fly fishing?
bassbuster replied to NJFlyMAn's topic in Fly Fishing Gear & Techniques
I have done something simular to this while throwing a crank bait. I was just throwing in my favorite spot and hit something that I assumed was a log, and imediatly broke off. I retied another lure and chalked the loss to a snag, then I tossed again into the general area and what do ya know? I hooked it again. Turned out to be a 20in 3.5lb smallmouth and I did get my lure back, which was lodged in his left side. He missed LOL -
I have been tying quiet a few different types of fly's but just cannot get my thread around tying a fly with hair that mimics a minnow or small bait fish. I am comfortable with the streamer variety but I am looking for more of a 3D variation like a mouse or a crawfish. The problem I run into is I cannot get the hair to lay right no matter how many different ways I wrap it. I have been looking for patterns but have yet to find a step by step for this variety of fly. If anyone can lend me some help I would apretiate it.

I thought I would say I am thoroughly impressed with this forum and I would like to thank all that have posted I have learned alot just stalking around the past few days. I have made this a daily stop and I now try to tie at least one fly a day. I am still realativly new to tying (had materals about a year and a half, but just recently started tying again), and I am looking for any tips on affordable materals and a quality vise. I look forward to talking with everyone and I hope that in the near furture that I may have to add to the list of new and improved fly's. Once again thank you and I hope that I can learn from all of you and maybe one can pick something up from me .
