  1. I just now realized I'm a part of this swap but do not know what this months criteria for the fly is, I'm susposed to tie. I think it's a midge but someone mentioned woven also. If someone can help clarify what it is we are doing; would be much appreciated and I'll knock them out this week end and get in the mail Monday. Thanks in advance. Just found the other thread and will get them out as soon as possible. Sorry for the brain fart. I will be needing an address to ship too.
  2. Nice to see something that is actually innovative. Really nicely done. You have three really nice elements of attraction combined in this nymph. Thanks for your efforts.
  3. If there is space left I'm would like to join
  4. I'm still using materials that I acquired through the late ninties and as late as 2002. They were always very nice to deal with and you never got shorted on anything. The lot sizes were large even by wholesale standards and always amazingly reasonable in their pricing.
  5. The positive or unique thing about Polar bear hair is that light passes through it . It is transluscent which allows infra red light, from the sun, to reach the bears skin and help to keep it warmer than would seem possible if the hair was an opaque white. It really is a quite unique natural material. Nothing that I know of can really duplicate it as a fly material. Maybe baby seals fur but much shorter.
  6. My cat collects Pine squirrel and ground squirrel tails for me and leaves them by the back door. Came home one day and there by the back door were three nice pine squirrel tails and one glassy eyed over fed cat.
  7. I have tied several patterns that use a rear hackle for the purpose of imparting a bobbing action to the fly as it sinks. These are primarily for lake fishing up here in NW Montana. Specifically on the Crow Indian reservation around Browning, MT. The big Brownies seem to attracted to them.
  8. Of late, for me it would be leach patterns but just got back from the Big Horn River where it was mostly very small nymphs. Thus I voted nymphs
  9. Really nice pattern . The only thing I'll change is the hook to a straight shank hook to increase the reliability of hook ups as the hump shank straight eye hooks are really a lousy hook to fish with but they do look nice for a display pattern.
  10. Calf body hair is nice looking but it will sink quicker than anything else as its straight, dense and will wick water up into it self. Bad choice for post material unless the fly is just for show. As an experiment we tied up flies with flouresent pink, orange and yellow and the usual white. The yellow was the only color that the fish definitely shied away from, of the four colors. Never got around to trying non-flouresent yellow for posts. Yes I did and they worked fine on parachute hopper patterns.
  11. Would be very interested and I have a lot of materials for trade. I'll send PM
  12. Fishing trout lakes is very different from stream fishing in a number of ways. Some of which have already been mentioned the fish are moving the other primary factor is your casting prophesency, as the farther you can cast the better your chances of catching large fish will be. A simple fly that will work is a size 10 or 12 Glen's Leach in a light green. Its tied on a scud hook, weighted with rabbit tail, keep it thin and twisted marabou for the body with a copper wire rib. It will pass for a damsel nymph,or leach. Chronimid nymphs will be migrating to deeper water as the weather gets colder if you hit it when this is happening you will be able to get a lot closer to the fish as there concentration is focused on the bottom of the lake. This is really fun fishing as you can stock large fish in shallow water. Cast out ahead of them and let your fly sink to the bottom and wait for the fish to be within 5 feet or so before you move your fly. Have fun as this is the best time of year to catch big fish.
  13. Interesting tye. Thanks for posting
  14. WOW very impressive.......... everything ,the flies and total presentation.. really first rate. Thanks Rock Worm. YES got the box today and I live on the end of the road to nowhere.
  15. Pictures: Sorry I can not seem to remember how to post them. I'll try again tomorrow.
  16. Got mine today looks really good . I will photograph these and post as soon as I get time. Definitely need a bigger background these puppies.
  17. Flies in the mail Thursday afternoon. Should get to you in the beginning of the week.
  18. The six month anniversary is coming up pretty soon for this swap.
  19. A friend just sent me an email containing these pics of a 55# new state record Pike for Michigan. The other Pike was 36". I guess we need bigger flies, like 2 or 3 feet long.
  20. I did an edit to my original post and put the name above the material list. The name is " Klink Stritch" . Sorry for the confusion
  21. Nice looking fly Yiman. It looks like I'm the tail dragger here. I will be using a 3/0 keel hook good for bottom dredging as the hook point rides facing up and they will be all of 5 inches or better and 3D eyes that I make myself out of gold holographic 1/4" disc's I found in a craft store and Loon UV Clear Fly Finish. I've tied up a couple but this pattern is still evolving. Hmmmmmm.... I will try to knock these out today. Whatever they end up being. I'm trying to remember that not everyone has a 10 wgt. to chuck an all bunny fur pike fly. Cheers
  22. Your pattern is good by me. Your thinking about actual hook size was excellent. But it leaves the next tyer in a bit of a spot if he doesn't have your hook for comparison. Maybe for next year's Evolution Swap you will have to specify body length in mm! The Lo55 is a basic down eye scud hook similar to Dai-Riki #135 only a lighter wire.
  23. I can change the hook size to a #12 if you would prefer, it was that aside from the number the actual hooks would actually be closer in size to the #14 200R that preceded me. Probably thinking to much sorry. I did add one material also that will add just a touch of flash to the body.
  24. I guess I'm up to bat, so to speak, well the first thing I will do is change the hook to a Daiichi 1280 which is the hook I've used to sub for the 200R and its look alikes for many years; as it alone will improve your hookup rate for any pattern calling for this style of hook. I will substitute a blend of black rabbit dub and blue/olive Lite-Bright dubbing for the Black Ice Dub. This is basically just a substitution not a change. The under wing I will leave as is. The over wing will remain Deer hair. My vision of what I want to do has just changed again, was going to add a floating tail but thats out at this point and I'm changing the hook again to a Eagle-Claw LO55 #10 as this is a scud style hook that I will reshape into a Klinkhammer style of hook. The actual size will be close to the previous #14 hook. I want the body to hang below the surface of the water. OK Name: Klink stritch HOOK: Eagle-Claw LO55 #10 Body: Green and black woven with a single strand of Krystal Flash #17 Green added to the green floss Thorax: Lite-Bright Blue/olive and Black Rabbit fur dubbing fur blend Under Wing: CDC (dunn) Over Wing: Deer hair Hackle: Coachman Brown (rooster)
