    Dubbing

I recently got some Alpaca, poly, and Hare's ear dubbing packs, and practicing, I've found the Hare's ear easiest to work with
  2. I'm not brulliant but I've been tying for a month, now, I've mastered ship finishing by hand, can dub and hackle okay, spinning deer hair is giving me some problems though, I can pack it tight at all
  3. What about spraying a clear coat on? If you spray varnish, over water based paints, like tube water colour, just mist it on, it usually negates any bleed (done it before, when model building)
  4. I recently bought a half hitch tool (only been tying for a month, or thereabouts) and I can't use it very well whatsoever, but after a few minutes of instruction, I find it much easier to whip finish by hand xD
  5. I'm actually quite lucky, I have a friend who works on a farm, and she prepares birds for markets and butchers too so she sends me things for free. This morning I woke up to a packet that contained all these pheasant feathers, tails, cape feathers as well as 2 whole wings
  6. my 4th fly so far, tied on a size 2 hook, tail and wing are lime marabou, body is medium tinsel, with a bit of red marabou and a black marabou hackle
  7. I've got some peacock tail on it's way to me, so I shall experiment, thank you for the help
  8. I really need a new camera lol It's a size 10 long shank hook, body is black chenille, wing case and head bit is peacock herl, my third ever fly but I'm proud of this one as I made it up as I went along
  9. Thank you, I'm enjoying the Tying as much as the fishing
  10. Been tying this morning, had a go at a streamer, it's tied on a size 10 long shank hook, black thread, body is red tinsel, and tail and head/wing are white and red maribou respectively, the red does extend underneath the fly but I had brushed it out the way before taking the pic Also the wing does look bulky, but thats because the red extends all around the hook shank and I brushed the side up
  11. Thank you polarbear! It's not perfect but it's a start Thank you CRRS Thank you Lykos, it has a special place on my vice stand, now
  12. Sorry about the picture quality, but, just finished my first ever fly, the body is peacock herl, and the whip finish I found muchos difficult, but I'm very happy with it
  13. Brilliant, thank you for your help
  14. Heya, I'm not sure if I've posted this in the right place, but, I have a friend sending me some pheasant wings, tails, and a pheasant cape, how do I go about preserving the skins the feathers are on? Thanks
  15. I once superglued my hand to my desk, that was awkward, to say the least, and I lost some skin on the the palm of my hand xD
