What a great tie for your first effort congrats. My only comment is I would try to keep the head smaller. The following web site might be of interest. Flytier.wordpress.com/2008/02/02ting-spey-flies-wth-davie-mcphail/

I had run out of large bronze mallard so I used dyed swan for the wing, I think it turned out ok?

An interesting pattern using a dubbing loop for the seal body.

In the style of Steve Gobin, except I used black Heron instead of Schlappen.

It's interesting when you consider the cost of bass fishing gear, it's not unusual for people to pay $200 for a small bait caster and $150 for a rod, I don't think there is a bass fisherman out there that has just one outfit. Then of course you have all the baits, lures etc. Once someone becomes totally hooked you have the bass boat etc. etc. This is what the younger future fisher people see on the idiot box so I would hope with guidance they would join the growing fly fishing community where they can fish for so many different fish in all the waters without spending a fortune and maybe tie there own flies and enjoy a lifetime of learning. These young people are the future and I hope they get all the encouragement and good advice to maintain the fisheries in the future, I,ll get of my soap box now.

I spent many seasons on both the upper and lower Grand for browns and steelhead you are so lucky to be so close. I moved to B.C. which has great fishing but I still miss the uniqueness of the Grand river and the fussy browns.

I am 59 years young and I don't think you ever stop learning, especially in the art and sport the of fly fishing and tying, that's what makes it such a wonderful pastime that will last you a lifetime. If the younger people get the chance to participate I truly believe it will open up horizons and a future interest that they will have for the rest of their lives. It's unfortunate the cost's have now gone crazy in rods, reels, fly lines, waders and tying material that is maybe preventing some younger people from getting into the sport. I hope that clubs and organizations can interest and support the younger generation to participate in this wonderful pastime.

Hi I presume you fish the Great Lakes, I did before moving to B.C. from Ontario. I found the book " Fly Fishing for Great Lakes Steelhead" by Rick Kustich and Jerry Kustich very helpful with not only the general information but the fly patterns and material lists for spey flies. There is also a web site with free video on spey casts " www.virtualflycasting.com/title.htm you might find useful. I know there are some very talented tyers on this site that will only be too happy to help you with any detailed questions you may have. I wish you all the best in your new adventure its another facet of fly fishing and its addictive. All the best

Hmmm odd isn't it. But if no one has anymore children then common sense tells you that would spell the end of any future would it not. Dr.Vette your welcome to your opinions, whatever they may be. But I will tell you that spouting off views on this website where you tell our members that anyone that has more than one Child is the "plague of death to humanity" is really pushing it. If you choose not to experience the love and warmth of Children then that's up to you. But do not chastise others that have children based on some lectures and charts you go by. I couldn't agree more Steeldrifter, of course we could simply annihilate every living creature except of course the human race, unfortunately we would of course have to become vegetarians and pet less. Anybodies call I guess.

I have been tying for about 20 years, started with bass bugs then trout dries and nymphs and have recently been tying speys and dees.
