  1. Could i get it as well. Just need to glue on some and eyes i should be good to go.
  2. What an amazing swap this was! My favorite by far! Thanks for hosting this awesome swap, and thanks to all the members for producing what looks like is going to be one awesome set of musky flys!!
  3. That shrimp looks awesome!!! But will it not just flip upside down? It looks like a regular hook with no keel weight to hold it upright like that. Still looks great thought!
  4. Haven't used this for fly fishing. But for ice fishing at night we use a small glow in the dark jig charger. Its just a small box with built in lights inside. Pope your fly/jig in the box for a couple of minutes with the light on and your good to go with a strong glow.
  5. Do you want it glow in the dark so you can see it better or so the fish can see it better?? If so you can see it better i think it could be a cool idea. But if its so the fish can see it better i wouldn't think it would help much. They dont have any troubles picking out bugs on the surface even at night.
  6. Haha just happens i finished my 10th frog tonight so should be able to mail them out relatively soon. Still want to tye several more to make sure the best of the best are getting sent out.
  7. I am very interested in trying this for pike fishing. Ive been looking to purchase them in Canada but cant seam to find any source. And dont really want to buy from the states at the moment due to our crappy dollar. So if there is a good way at making them i would love to give it a try. Ever since watching Niklaus Bauer fish with his wiggle tail flys, i have been keen to try them.
  8. Are there any disadvantages to using tube flys? There aren't any than i am familiar with so it brings the question, why doesn't everyone use tube flys? Better yet, why isn't every single fly that is capable of being a tube fly a tube fly? If there are no real disadvantages to them why not use them exclusively? Obviously you cant use tubes to make your smaller flys such as nymphs and drys and so on, but for the bigger flys, why not? From your trout streamers, to your bass and pike flys. Why doesn't everyone use them, and only them, especially if they dont have any real disadvantages. Regular hook flys have there disadvantages; rusting hooks, dulling hooks, bending hooks and so on all leave the fly unusable. But tube flys only seam to have advantages; changing hooks size, less wear on the fly, better hooks sets and the list goes on. So why is it that everyone doesn't use tube flys, and only tube flys. This is just a curious though and not my actual intention, i for sure know im not going to start tying only tube flys, its just not practical. Its just a though that came to mind. Thanks.
  9. It will fill up when it fills up. I honestly dont see any reason to rush it. Maybe have to push the deadline back but that's it. Not like your going to gain anything from rushing it and dropping the spots. Ide say give it a while still. In the end Its up to the swapmaster.
  10. Belly hair. It spins well because it is hollow. So because its hollow and full of air it also floats very well.
  11. When you say pickerel are you talking about chain pickerel, or walleye??
  12. Some of my favorite walleye flys are just slightly tweaked trout streamers. Clousers are on the top of my list. Darting along the bottom they have the same action as jigs. I like them 3-4" long; favorite colors and white/chartreuse, white yellow, white orange, solid white, solid black. Again, similar to conventional jigs. Other streamers such as deceivers, wolly buggers, and bunny leaches also work very well. Like you said, tye a fly that resembles a yellow perch and you will be on the right track. Good luck!!
  13. When it comes to pike and musky flies, do you like them bright and flashy, or more dull and natural? Flys tyed with bright colors such and orange, yellow, chartreuse, pink, red, and so on; or more along the lines of a natural baitfish fly with duller natural colors such as white, black, browns, olives, tans, and so on? When would you choose to use one kind overt the other? Do you find that you have more success with one over the other? If so why do you think it is. Just curious what other people think about when it come to there toothy fish flys. Thanks
  14. What you using, mac or windows? I dont have much experience with windows, but from the little experience i do have i know that windows movie maker is a good choice. As for mac, i would highly recommend GoPro Studios. Unless you are looking into make some very advance films it will be just fine. I like it because it is simple to use, and produces great results. It is basic enough that you wont get overloaded with so many different features leaving you confused, yet advanced enough that you will be able to make a very good film.
  15. I cant believe more people aren't getting into this one!?!?! Where are all the crazy bass fisherman on here!?!? Come on guys lets get tying some frogs!!
  16. I dont know why but i have the most difficult time landing fish. When out wadding i cant get the bloody fish into my net. Just the other day i was fishing and hooked into a really nice 19-20" rainbow. Of course it broke off as i was trying to get the stupid fish into the net. It happens to me all the time. I catch the fish, but cant complete the last step of landing and more often than not loose the fish. I reel in as much line as i can up to the indicator. Since where i fish on the Bow you usually use a 9' leader, i am left with 9' of line left out when trying to land the fish. My problem is that i cant get the fish close enough to me to get em in the net. It is always left just out of my reach. I hold the rod high and as far back as i can but i still cant get the fish close enough. I often have to rely on just dropping my rod and grabbing my leader, trying to hand line the fish in the last several feet to the net. This is when the fish usually brake off. The thing that i really hate is how long and difficult it is to get the fish in and released. It especially bothers me when there is someone in the area watching when i catch a fish. They watch as i a try to get the bloody fish into my net. Im sure it looks like i have no clue what i am doing, and that i may be even hurting the fish. This bothers me, which is why i want to figure out what im doing wrong and how to get the fish to the net. With several factors which include big fish, long leaders, and a fast current, i just cant effectively get the fish in. Any ideas on what i could try? Thanks
  17. when you bench is so cluttered with trimmed feathers and hair that you dont see your new pair of tying scissors and accidentally vacuum them up while cleaning...
  18. You have worked your hardest to get the perfect spun hair fly tyed, then over trim it and ruin the whole thing. What are some of your "dont you hate it when" fly tying moments.
  19. Thanks! Its one of my favorites so far. Im hoping that it will be a good producer. It was a very simple tye. Black big fly fiber on the bottom, several stands of krinkle around that, than i lay down the long black feathers (sorry dont know the name of them) as many as i could evenly fit around the body, than tyed in clumps of black ostrich all around, finished with the plastic head. The springy bulk of the big fly fiber supports the long feathers and ostrich to give it a very nice fishy look. Thanks alot. I'll have to look for some long black feathers, so i can give it a try. Never tied a black fly, but they just looks cool. If it's not to much i would love a recipe for the black and red one also. This one is very simple as well. Its just two colors of buckatil. Tye in a long bunch of bucktail as the tail (or any other suitable tail material), then just start tying in bunches of bukctail forward. Bunch of black on top, bunch on black on the bottom. Move forward, bunch of red on top, bunch of red on bottom. Just keep going back and forth to the eye alternating colors. Simple and in the end you have a nice big fly with lots of movement in the water. It may look big but once t gets in the water everything lays down nicely giving it a better shape and movement.
  20. Thanks! Its one of my favorites so far. Im hoping that it will be a good producer. It was a very simple tye. 21. Preparing for a musky trip next summer. Started off with a good batch of big streamers. Along with what ill receive from the musky swap i should have a good set.
  22. Okay so its sounds like im on the right track getting 2-3 flys per half blade. Goods to know. Thanks all
  23. How many spun hair flys do you get out of a single razor blade? I start to feel that after as little as 2 or 3 flys that the blade is already starting to feel a bit dull. Still usable for a few more tyes still, its just not as ideal as a new blade. Is this about right? How fast do you go through your blades when doing full on spun hair flys such as the bigger bass and pike poppers and divers? Thanks
