  1. Definitely a good fly, the hackle on your last one is perfectly gauged IMO. I feel that the chinille gives you too bulky of a body, I prefer dubbing, but all and all excellent first attempts. The bugger was the first pattern I learned and it's still my go to on most stillwater..
  2. It depends on the pack, I have one grizzly dyed olive that I can tie down to a 16.. I guess I could have just got lucky on that one.. But yes the average pack should have plenty of feathers for a sz. 1 hook.. Always better to shop in person with this kinda stuff though. -Miles
  3. From today on the little truckee river..
  4. Agreed! Awesome streamer, any chance of an SBS?! -Miles
  5. What is cat gut?! I'm assuming it's not actually what it sounds like..
  6. Thanks troutbum11, got the big one on a sz. 10 chironamid trailing behind a bugger, these big fish still LOVE the plentiful midge pupa. -Miles
  7. Pyramid lake, nv. Yesterday. .
  8. I wish someone could tell me where I could go for a tutorial on this. I can usually figure out a fly tying pattern, but this one is a little funky. I was actually wondering this too, it looks like rabbit and foam, with a leather tail. What I'm wondering is if the rabbit hair is tied in using a dubbing loop or straight on the hide.
  9. Nice is that in north Lake Tahoe? I live in soda springs, and could show you a spot to catch bigger brookie a than that, my biggest is 16 1/2!!
  10. I was actually wondering about this too, pick some up at Wally World, seemed like a good cheaper alternative..
  11. Been messing around with a new hopper pattern, then decided to turn it into a stonefly. From top to bottom: an indicator style hopper for bigger water hopper dropper rigs, a skawala stone, a salmonfly, and another hopper to be used my it's self..
  12. Very beautiful May, so are you bending the 200r then? And how so?
  13. Pt nymphs are most often "dead drifted" under an indicator ( assuming your fishing moving water) I like to run a two nymph rig using a sz. 6 or 8 weighted stonefly, to a sz. 14-18 pheasant tail unweighted to add a more natural drift. It can imitate multiple mayflys, but I find it most closely resembles a callibaetis nymph
  14. Lahontan cutthroat from pyramid lake nv. First time there.. What an awesome place, real hard to fish from shore though. Got him on a sz. 14 buzzer
  15. Ya and in California, even if mike chell dosent think so.. (Wink wink)
  16. Crackaig, that's superb.. Doesn't seem like it would float too good though, Stillwater I'd assume. Nicely done! -Miles
  17. Thanks for all the responses! I will definitely check that link out.. I'm excited to learn more about it. my grandpa is suffering from some memory loss so he doesn't really remember where or when he got it. I can't wait to fill it full of my flys and show it to him. It came with a bunch of flies in it. none of which are rusted so I was thinking about saving some of the ones in better condition and cleaning off the rest if the hooks and re-tying some of my takes on old ties..
  18. Here's a better shot of what I'm talking about -thanks
  19. I recently acquired an old perrine fly box from my grandpas fishing gear, I looked online and couldent find much info on them, like when they where made, or any reference to model numbers. I was hoping you guys could help, attached are some pictures of it (with some of my flys in it) any ideas? Also the clip in the center row.. I have no idea what that's for.. -Miles
  20. I got inspired by the kind words, here's a few tied in olive (my, I mean the fishes favorite color) -Miles
  21. It's dark barred ginger variant from whitings that came in there bugger back, looks really good on lighter colored buggers. The marabou is wapsi sand colored grizzly.. The hooks are actually what I like most about those flys, they're tied on an umpqua competition jig hook, it's a really stout really sharp barbless hook, and I used tungsten slotted beads which are stupid expensive..
