From my minimal experience with switch rods chucking big flys with a standard overhand cast its tough and might actually cause more impact than a single handed rod of that weight. But if you where learn a few casts using two hands, I.E. the snap T, that should help take some stress off your wrist. Although I'm not too sure how well those casts would work on Stillwater.. -miles

That's crazy I have this same set up: St.. Croix avid 2 piece 3wt. With a orvis battenkill, the only difference is the line, good taste TheCream! And nice fish to boot!

Messing around with a new editing program on the also new iPhone.. Here's a few shots from today on the little truckee river caught on a sz. 22 midge I just started tying, first fish to hit it, and what a wild beauty she was..

My first attempts at tying a traditional style wet fly, lacking a bunch of materials.. Any critiques are welcome. Hook: gco 5262 sz. 6 Thread:6/0 uni thread in camel Body: orange/ yellow danvilles 900 denier acetate floss w/ #14 copper tinsel Dubbing: red and black synthetic dubbing Hackle: ringneck pheasant rump feather( totally makeshift!) and orange dyed guinea Wing: turkey

Thanks guys, I will give those a try! It was pretty cheap at sportsmans warehouse so I figured why not.. Just more materials to feed the addiction..

So I just picked up a couple small patches of muskrat fur, ones off the back and ones off the belly. I'm not really too sure what to use em for quite yet. the belly patch looks like awesome dry dubbing but the back has a lot of guard hairs.. Any ideas would be appreciated, I tried using the search engine on this forum but to no avail (maybe because I'm on an iPhone?!).. Thanks, Miles

Tied up a few sz. 16 pheasant tails for a friend

Ya I'm a huge fan of the bugger packs, relatively cheap and still have that whitings quality, or try some estaz for your body without hackle. Or you can do just a couple wraps of soft hackle up behind the head.

My trip to the east arm of great slave lake NWT

What flys where you using? I have some lake trout around me that I've been wanting to target for a while, but they tend to hang in 40-100 ft. This time of year.. I'm thinking this fall will be a better bet for em. I was thinking articulated streamers and buck tails -
Love that hackle stack technique kemo! Thanks for posting.

Hey Mike gotta give you a shout out man, found you on soundcloud! Good stuff man!!! Now I got some new beats to tie to, woooowooo! -Miles -
although I haven't tied one before it looks stupid simple.. Id say it's nothing more then black 6/0 thread black marabou tail midnight cowboy chenille and black saddle hackle or schlappen.. And the colors are black/blue/red not purple, btw
-
Yes all of the above responses are correct midnight cowboy is just a popular color of chenille used to tie up buggers and wooly worms I live about 45 minutes outside of reno and have defiantly heard good things about that color combo in particular, so much so that at the right time of year it's damn near impossible to find the stuff at cabelas or sportsmans warehouse. The most popular flies out there tend to be buggers or foam beetles with sz. 6-8 mahalo midges tied in red off the back.
