  3. going into shop to look at a rod and you are wanting a mid priced rod or lower priced. Say you are looking to spend less than $200 on the rod alone. But the owner keeps trying to stick that new fancy Winston or Sage in your hands. "Here take it and cast it" even thought you have told him your budget. I beleive the next time they do that to me I will take it out and bring it back in about 8 pieces you know make it a "real" multi piece rod! I could never do that but I bet that would break that habit to me atleast! :j_k: FM
  4. Hey I am looking for some type of 1 man fishin' rig. Maybe a pontoon or a yak. I have seen the pontoons in cabelas for about $200 to god knows! Would one of the $200-$300 pontoons be worth using. The river I would be using it in are pretty calm and I wouldn't think I would need one for class V rapids. But are they comfy to fish from. One other thing which one would get me around on still water better. I woudl like to use this on some small lakes too. I don't really know how much a Yak would cost me but I have friends that use them and love them. But maybe they are biased. I think the pontoon maybe better but who knows help me out. Thanks FM
  5. on a plain PT fly i like to use the end ot the pheasent piece as the tail and then just advance it forward. I like to use copper wire as a reienforcement it works well and adds some wieght to get the fly to break the surface without using lead. I just use the PT feather for the wing case too. ONly PT tail fibers, peacock hearl and wire a hook and maybe some lead on my PTs. Well and some thread! FM
  6. I recieved this info a tonight and thought it may be of some interest to someone. I think it is good reading. ATTORNEY'S ADVICE -- NO CHARGE* * A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company.* * 1. **The next time you order checks have only your initials (instead of first name) and last name put on them. If someone takes your checkbook, they will not know if you sign your checks with just your initials or your first name, but your bank will know how you sign your checks.* * ** 2. Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, put "PHOTO ID REQUIRED".* * 3.** When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the "For" line. Instead, just put the last four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check processing channels won't have access to it.* * 4. **Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone. If you have a **PO** Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address. Never have your SS# printed on your checks. You can add it if it is necessary. But if you have it printed, anyone can get it.* * 5. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place. I also carry a photocopy of my passport when I travel either here or abroad. We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed on us in stealing a name, address, Social Security number, credit cards. * * **Unfortunately I, an attorney, have firsthand knowledge because my wallet was stolen last month. Within a week, the thieves ordered an expensive monthly cell phone package, applied for a VISA credit card, had a credit line approved to buy a Gateway computer, received a PIN number from DMV to change my driving record information online, and more. But here's some critical information to limit the damage in case this happens to you or someone you know:* * 1.** We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately. But the key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those where you can find them.* * 2.** File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc., were stolen. This proves to credit providers you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one).* * But here's what is perhaps most important of all : (I never even thought to do this.)* * 3. Call the 3 national credit reporting organizations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and Social Security number. I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over the Internet in my name. The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit.* * By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all the damage had been done. There are records of all the credit checks initiated by the thieves' purchases, none of which I knew about before placing the alert. Since then, no additional damage has been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away this weekend (someone turned it in). It seems to have stopped them dead in their tracks**.* *Now, here are the numbers you always need to contact about your wallet, etc., has been stolen:* * 1.) Social Security Administration (fraud line): 1-800-269-0271* * 2.) Equifax: 1-800-525-6285* * 3.) Experian (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742* * 4.) Trans **Union**: 1-800-680-7289* * We pass along jokes on the Internet. We pass along just about everything. But if you are willing to pass this information along, it could really help someone that you care about.*

    okuma reel

It is hard to say if I will ever get up north for the big boys so it will probably be fine. I would be more worried about the drag on the stippers than the salmon though. That is a tank of a fish. But I believe my integrity would handle it. THis reeel looks like the same set up except Carbon fiber frame. Oh well for $33 if they gut it buy something better. But still looking at the TIKA. FM
  15. i also use silicon spray. I buy it at walmart comes in a can of abou 12oz and cost about $3 or $4 and on the good side also works great on boots! I spray some in a bottle cap and as I tie I dunk them in until they absorb it. I then blow off the excess and let set over night on a piece of paper or something. HTen as Blackdog said use the almiighty Frog Fanny on the stream I do this to all flies except of CDC ones it will gum up the CDC. So just use the Fanny for them. FM

    okuma reel

THe 8wt will be for float tubing, "big river" bass, pike, lake fishing bass, and if I ever get to take a trip for steelhead or salmon. I also have been thinking of doing some local stripper and hybrid fishing. So just a all around rod. I am bad to throw big popper in the rivers that are a little to wind resistant for the 6wt so maybe some of that too. I own a sierra too and the integrity. SO hope it is as good as them but that TICA is nice looking too so who knows! FM

    okuma reel

Hey I jsut saw aon the Troutlet a different reel. The Okuma Airframe LA. It is a carbon fiber reel looks really light and nice appears to have the integrity drag by the pics on the Okuma website. So maybe a good real for the 8wt I hope to be building in a couple of months. The price is so nice at $33.95 not bad at all! Well any feedback will be great. FM
  19. don't forget stuff for some size 8-10 woolly buggers! Gotta have em. SM
  20. I have had a pair of Orvis Silver labels they started to leak last year they exchanged for me. I put them on a few days ago now the new ones ore leaking both times at the seams. I called in they say they are changing wader manufact. and don't have any in stock and it will be some time before they are in. I tell the dude I can't wait he said to send them back for a refund. This leads me to think that I am not the only one having trouble. I will be getting about $190 in the mail so I am trying to stay right around that in price. What is the best I can get for the buck. I have looked at LL Bean the ones that look like Simms G3, the Simms Freestones, the $200 Goretex Simms. Not to mention a few Cabelas I like the new guide wader they make for $189 my buddy has the $129 ones and has used them 3 years and love them. So I don't know what to do. Who makes cabelas wader? Anybody know? How about LL Bean? Any expeirience with LL Bean? Thanks for being a bottomless pit of info! FM
  21. I tie a quick and dirty little cdc one. Just Olive thread and nat. dun cdc tied into a ost like for a parachute. but with no hackle. I call it a no hackle bwo. Oh ya little bluish hackle tips for a tail. the fly works well for a dry with a little frog fanny and as an emaerger in the film. This is a quick and dirty fly to tie and is extremly cheap to produce. I tie 16-22 in them always done well on them. FM
  22. Hey welcome aboard! So are you form Tenn.? I live in Southwest VA. I have a opinion I use the loop to loop method with the slip on braided loops. That is what comes factory on Orvis wonderlines. I ave used the loops of year before though. I put them on myself. But do put a little crazy glue on the braid to lock it on and check them for your own self assurance. But if you aren't sure hwo to do the perfection loop heres a site and links to about any other knot you will need http://shoreangling4u.tripod.com/knotguide/id26.html let me know where ya fron if in Tenn. I fish down there alot. FM
