  1. I was thinking of going with larger posts. The plan is 3/8" aluminum for it so that I can machine in 1/4" deep recesses.
  2. I didn't get much time today to work on design but I'm thinking something along these lines. Have a few drilled and tapped holes at strategic locations on the base of it that would allow me to add or remove plates which could hold thread, tools, etc. For travel the entire until could be disassembled/assembled in seconds and would transport at just over 1/2" thick. 24"x16" is the overall dimensions, should I go bigger/smaller?
  3. This is pretty much what I was thinking of. Since there aren't any mass produced units available I think I will make my own. Make it out of aluminium and anodize it a gold color. I will be very interested to see it when finished. The gold anodized will look good. Better then brass. Make sure you notify me when done. Will do. I am going to design it in CAD today and sleep on it for a few nights to see if I want to make any changes and then I will get a sheet of aluminum to machine it from.

  5. Exactly. It's something different.
  6. Does anyone make any aluminum fly tying stations? I've seen many made from wood with routing done to hold materials, etc. but never out of aluminum. I'm talking about something like this:
  7. Just ordered a Montana Mongoose, its my first voice so take it for what its worth.

    How many flies?

I just ordered a bunch of stuff from J. Stockard Fly Fishing so I can get started practicing on tying some Royal Wulff flies. Only thing I need now is to grab a vice! Is the Renzetti Traveler the best value in the $150 price range?

    How many flies?

Tidewaterfly, Thanks for that info. That will help me quite a bit to get started.
  10. Ok, to start off with I'm completely new to fly fishing as I mentioned in another thread so bare with the newb questions. I'm gearing up to do some fly fishing in the Adirondacks and Finger Lakes region of NY for mid-April to the end of May. How many varieties of flies to I need to realistically have a decent setup? I'm sure I don't want to head out with just one or two different styles of flies! I will be fishing for brown and rainbow trout.

    Fly Line

How do I choose the correct fly line for my rod. I have a Sage ONE 9' 5 weight rod on the way along with a Sage 2050 reel. I'm planning on fishing mostly streams for trout species.
