  1. Well my order from J Stockard came on Monday so I have started tying my flies. I will be tying a size 20 wiggle pupa pattern from the book Patent Patterns. Gosh those 20's are small. I hope you all had a good holiday. We have about a month left to get the flies together. If anyone needs my address say the word or send me a PM. Tom

  6. Sorry Troutbum2, The good thing about this board is that there are always active swaps going on. In addition, with winter approaching (here already for some) the swap activity will kick into high gear. Someone may also see the interest in this swap and start another one! Kind of like a dueling caddis fly swap?? Take care... Tom
  7. Ok, I have heard from a few folks and it looks like they do not have a problem letting one more tier in. So Ostfyn you are in if you are still interested. That will make 14 flies that each tier will have to send in for this swap. I will make this the cut off. I'll also add that any of the swappers that have not chimed in please PM me if they have a problem sending in 14. (I know I sometimes have a problem remaining focused on tying the 12!) I'll make sure all tiers are happy and included. Have a good holiday folks and may you get lots of tying supplies in your stockings! Tom
  8. Ok I'll call it..... Troutguy you are in. So all tiers in the swap should send in 13 flies..... Thanks Guys. Tom
  9. Well we have a full swap. Thanks for signing up. I look forward to seeing all your work. Troutguy, You just missed the cut off for the swap... I'll poll the other swappers on this one.... do you guys mind if we add one more tier?

  11. I'm checking to see if there is any interest in a caddis fly swap. I'll open this one up to any stage of caddis fly. Larva, emerger, adult... I'll leave it up to whatever you would like to tie. The rules are the standard: (see pinned topics at the top of the swap page or feel free to PM me any questions) 13 tiers including the Swapmaster You each tie 14 flies, mail your flies to swapmaster with return postage and envelope. Seeing as it is getting closer to the holidays I'll make the due date in January 2007. Lets shoot to have the flies in the mail by January 22nd and I'll mail them out on the 31st sharp! First 12 who respond with an "I'm In" will be in the swap. All are welcome... If you know what you will be tying please post so we'll have a good variety of flies. Updates: 12-14-06 We added one person to the swap so each tier should send 13 flies 12-16-06 We added one more person to the swap (last one) so each tier should send 14 flies If anyone will have a problem with the 14 please send me a PM and we'll work it out 01/31/07 ALL FLIES ARE IN...WILL SORT AND SEND BY THIS WEEKEND ... 13. As long as folks say they are in the mail I don't have a problem with waiting a week or so. A grace period so to say.... However it's up to you boss.... Tom
  14. **** BUMP **** Geo is off chasing Mini at Disney this week  , however he asked me to keep and eye on his swap while he's away. About 10 days left ... minus shipping time .... From what I have seen of the flies so far this will be a great swap! So .... finish up those flies ... we are down to the wire (me included ... mine are almost done....) PS: I also have Geo's address if anyone needs it... Tom
  15. FC, I ordered two of these assortments a couple of years ago for Christmas. One for a friend (-geozip on the board) and one for myself. I'm not sure about his shipping time now, but it was great then. They came in with plenty of time for Christmas. I believe I ordered them the end of November (around this time). They were two gift wrapped boxes with a gift card. Cram packed with materials. I use to have some pictures of all the materials, I'll have to check to see if I still have them. Good Luck.... Tom
  16. It was in the sink .... until I showed my wife and son.... then it was back across the street with it.... When you flip it over you can see the mouth and gills, my wife said it looked like it was smiling at her :dunno: Soooooo.... she felt bad and said.... let him go (yes dear...) so he went back to be caught another day.... Tom
  17. I would also have to say that I'm not much for freshwater fish but I do like saltwater. Cod, Haddock, Halibut, Hake, Tuna.... Here is a picture of a Skate that I caught from shore while vacationing in Maine this summer. I ended up letting this one go as my wife felt bad for it (it was "smiling" at her ) I have heard they taste like scallops? For those who have tried it is that true? Wish I had given it a try..... Tom
  18. I'm going to skip out on this swap. I do thank you for the offer though. I've got too many things going right now to start another set. I'm sure someone will fill my spot in short order.... Have fun guys and I'll jump in on another swap soon.... Tom
  19. There was an article in the Winter 2005 issue of Fly Tyer magazine that talks about laminating sheets of foam together to make a wasp pattern. The lamination steps are rather involved but they sure do hold together. If you can get a hold of that issue its worth a read. I'll try and outline the steps in short: 1-make a 50-50 mix of acetone and contact cement (not rubber cement, I found this out the hard way) 2-with a small paint brush, apply an even coat to both halves you want to stick together. (wrap brush in aluminum foil between coats to help prevent drying out) Apply a total of four coats with a 20 min dry time between coats. (adhesive is applied outside the home due to fumes) The author used chopsticks to help hold the foam down as he applied adhesive with the brush. 3-After 4th coat dries, press two pieces together (avoid trapping air). Place a scrap piece of wood on top of the foam sandwich and I quote "smack the hell out of it" with a hammer. This applied the necessary pressure to weld the pieces together. Test a corner; if you can peal them apart hit it some more with the hammer. 4-repete steps until you have the desired laminations. Hope this helps... Tom Here is a wasp I made for a foam fly swap a while back using this technique.
  20. I have also picked it up in the craft section of Wal-Mart Tom
  21. Very cool vid Shaq. Thanks! Tom
  22. I was trout fishing once on the Battenkill river in NY. I was mid river and felt something bouncing off my leg. When I looked down I saw a snapping turtle the size of a hubcap trying to swim around my leg! Nearly had to empty out my waders after that! Tom
  23. PM Sent ..... I'm not sure what's up with FlyPimp, I see he has not been on since October 3rd... Hope all is well????
