  1. oh and pacres.....LOVE IT! thats a hell of a set up ya have there.
  2. ok steeldrifter....Im JEALOUS!! :wallbash: I mean all I got is a beat up old sewing table my girlfriend gave me when she got a new sewing machine, cause she was tired of seeing all my flytying stuff strewn across the couch and dining room table. But I gotta admit, you have an awesome set up there. You sure you dont have a store set up with all those supplies you have there?? lol So for now im crammed in the corner with my new table, my old sewing table turned tying bench, and a few dozen zip lock bags of materials, and tools trying to think of things to tie up. Oh well, even if I cant think of anything to tie, It's better in here then in the front room with her and her mother who came to visit. Well, gonna hide behind my vise now, and hope she cant find me. Burn them spools everyone. Spring will be here soon, and we need all the flies we can crank out this winter. Great ties and so long.
  3. I occasionally sit at the vise when i cant think of anything to tie, and experiment. either wings, or cases, dubbing. Mostly tie ins. I have a hard time getting my wings to stay put when i tie em in. But their starting to stay put more often now.
  4. hello everyone. I used to be a die hard fly tyer until a few yrs ago when I got divorced. Thats when I started driving semi trucks in the 12 western states. I lived in california for about 25 yrs, and wanted to do something new. Didnt get much of a chance to really tie any flies, but boy did I ever get to fish in some awesome waters. So know I consider myself a rookie again. I know alot of flies I can probly tie, but when I get to the vise, Its like writers block. I cant think of any patterns to tie. And all of the basics are flooding my boxes, but cant find any flies that would help here in missouri for fishing. I found three so far. cracklebacks, partridge and orange, and hares ear nymphs. If anyone else has any good suggestions, or ideas to get the brain working again, and help in cranking out some great patterns over the summer, plz send em to me. All input would be very helpfull. Hate to say it, but this isnt like riding a bike. I did fall off, and HELL NO I cant get back on and ride. and if I am it's back to the training wheels from what I've seen. Well I did teach myself to tie when I started the first time too. Y'all take care.
  5. I used to tie quite abit, then I became a truck driver. When you cant tie alot you loose your skills. Been off the road for a yr now, and I can still only tie one about every 20 min. thats a basic dry though. Tail, slim body, and a palmered head. Im not even gonna think how long it would take to tie a hopper again.
  6. My primary vise is a renzetti traveler vise. I have both the base and c clamp versions as I dont have the room to keep it stationary, but my renzetti has never failed me. I got it a few years ago after my ex wife tossed out all my fly tying gear and had to start fresh. At the time I was using a vise that came in a kit that I had gotten about 10yrs earlier by my parents. I live by the motto if its not broken dont fix it. It workied fine for me, so no reason for another one. Well....then this happened. THANX SUSAN. Sometimes ya gotta love exs. If it werent for her Id still be tying on that old vise probably. Oldies are goodies, but never bad mouth a good rotary.
  7. aww dont feel so bad. When I was married I had a great huge table like that for all my fly tying things. Then one day the ex gets mad, cant remember why....too busy tying!....anyways, she gets mad and wants a divorce. when I go back to get my things she sold it all. Im just now getting all my equipment, and supplies back together again so I can start tying again. But, what I mean most is dont complain. At least you have a place. Some of us, like the college couple, cant spare the room. Myself, I use a small sewing bench, and just purchased a lapbench also. I have to get out my supplies and use em as I need em. and thats a pain. :wallbash:
